James Bond's Beverage

I was watching "You only Live twice" the other day and there is a seen when Bond (SC) is in Tokyo to meet an Englishman that is on his side. He is taken there by a Japanese lady. When SC is sitting with this Englishman he asks if he wants a martini. He says " Stirred not Shaken, correct" ? Bond says yes. In all other Bond films its Shaken not Stirred as I saw in the Octopussy movie with RM.

I am sure this has been observed and discussed in other posts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've heared, arround that time the "Shaken, not stirred" line wasn't really cemented as a standard James Bond line yet. I think before that it was only mentioned by Dr. No. I think it wasn't untill later that the line actually became the trademark that it is today.

He was just being polite. Henderson says that he hopes he got it right. Bond was being a gentleman.

The shaken not stirred line was already part of the Bond universe but I always thought it was a deliberate 'mistake' by the screenwriters. However, I remember that Lewis Gilbert makes a comment about it on the YOLT commentary track. Something along the line that because he was a new kid on the block he didn't notice the mistake and it was left in by chance.

Well, what Bond did in the scene is interesting because a gentleman is always a gracious guest. On the other hand, this is a concept lost on the audience. The scene plays so well that I have to believe they did it on purpose and Bond was being kind to his host.

I think it was made as a way of showing Henderson knew Bond, but not that well, and that was put in to show the the relationship wasn't overly strong, or maybe that it was quite some time since they had met before (if they had)
