Tom Ford Shawl Collar Cardigan-Advice

Can anyone advise on the fitting of this garment? Ie is it true to size, runs big or small etc. I would have thought that being Italian it would run on the small side. Its obviously a big considered purchase that would have to be bought without trying it on so any help would be grateful. Also is this jacket known in the store as a "Steve McQueen" as this was the name an eager salesperson referred it to me as. Thanks for your help guys.

    Hey all,

Well I have spent many months doing overtime but I finally contacted Tom Ford Milan, and I received my cardigan yesterday

In relation to Stevie's question on size, I would say they are usually a size bigger, I take a 36 chest (46 italian), but had to get a 44 - even then it is a tad long on the sleeves for me.

Out of interest what is the best way to care for the cardigan in terms of hand washing merino wool

Enjoy the pics of the cardigan and my other James Bond Jumpers:

You can get the cardigan in the US as they are classic items. They will use any button you like, horn or leather. Sizing runs big, so order one size down for that Bond fit. :007)

MI6 Commander - I assume that includes Tom Ford New York?

I hope so as I plan to be there next month on a biz trip and will visit both there and of course Billy Reed!

Knowing my luck now I have cursed it and the trip will be cancelled - any ideas of the price in UDS?

    Cheers

Yes, if they don't have it, they will allocate from Vegas or Beverly Hills. I would call first so its there for you when you arrive! Price should be $1,890, unless it has gone up again. However, I totally think the price is worth it and I guarantee you will feel like Bond and receive many compliments (added bonus) -{ .

    hi guys

can anyone tell me if TF has changed the cut of this cardigan at all? I believe you can (could?) order the screen accurate cardigan from TF and they would do a special order from Italy as has been so popular. However, there are mentions that TF has released different versions over the years with different fabric mixes and non-leather buttons, although I am not sure this is correct. I think TF launched the cardigan again a year or 2 ago and this was 100% merino wool with leather buttons but I am not sure if they changed the cut to a slightly slimmer cut and slimmed the shawl collar, ie. so looks very similar to the QOS screen one but overall slightly slimmer with smaller proportions. With the huge fountain of knowledge available here, I wondered if anyone could clarify?

Allegedly the collar itself has been slimmed down, but not sure of the body itself...someone mentioned the thickness had changed of the overall wool....

I would say the size is true. The small fits me apart from the arms which are long but I assumed you are supposed to fold them back anyway

    Special orders are not cheap.
It should cost around GBP1'200 for the QoS cardigan.

As others have confirmed, TF did change the specs on their Shawl collar cardigan. It's been almost 2 years now, in fact. F/W 2014 is when the new model was introduced. The collar was narrowed and the body was made more slim fit. It's still 100% merino wool, and I don't believe there's any change to the thickness. If there is, it's not noticeable. I owned the QoS version and have owned the slimmer model for about 18 months, and they're virtually identical in every respect (collar and slim fit aside).

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Apologies if this is not the right place to post this

I have with a heavy heart decided to sell my Tom Ford Shawl Cardigan, in summary the cardigan even though it was a size 44, was a little too big for me and I have only worn it a few times and cannot justify holding onto it.

I want to sell to AJBers before going to eBay as I want someone from the community to enjoy this wonderful piece:

The dimensions of the cardigan are:

    15.5 inch shoulder to shoulder
29 inch from collar to base
20 inch across the front chest
    34.75 inch sleeve length

This would suit a size medium or size 38(48)

The cardigan was purchased from Tom Ford's Milan store and is based on the original design, not the tailored McQueen version.

As it is used offers in the region of £500 plus postage

I prefer the newer slimmer version actually. The only visible difference is the width of the shawl collar. I don't have broad shoulders or a thick neck, so I thought the wider collar didn't look quite right on me. I also sized down on the newer version. I bought a 48IT in the QoS version (I wear a size 48IT in all other TF polos, suits, and the harrington), and it's a very bulky cardigan. I could have easily gone down to a 46 (maybe even a 44) - the body is long and the sleeves are even longer. I bought a size 46 in the new model, and it fits just the way I like - slim but not tight. Living in a warmer climate, I'm only wearing a single layer underneath, so I don't need the extra room underneath. My advice is if you're looking for the QoS version, go down one size for a slimmer fit.

    Hope that helps.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

That's great, thanks. Going to go for the new slimmer version. For anyone in London, TF Harrods and Sloane st have the slimmer cardigan in black in various sizes. Price £860 (which is much less than the special order QOS SA one - think this was approx £1100 a few years ago).

On another note, do people for for the SA cuff shirt underneath or go for a barrel cuff? I was going to wear it with the latter but just curious....

    Cheers
