Skyfall Lodge Boots - Alternative

Hi All,

Searched for a (slightly) cheaper (yet still quailty) alternative to the £400+ C&J Islay boots;

http://www.loake.co.uk/loake-1880/boot/bedale.html

http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&brandid=6&shoeid=5871

The Herring model come with a toasty sheepskin lining, which I imagine would be ideal for cold brisk walks across the Scottish moorland... :)

    Both good alternatives. I bought a pair of C&J Harrys, which are Islays made on a wider last , for Rogersons Fine Footwear, thanks to a tip here. Still not cheap, but £70-80 cheaper than the Islays. Not screen accurate, but a great pair of casual brogue boots, are the Clarks Montacute, at around £80. I have a pair and they are very comfortable and look great as a casual boot.

    Agree, the Clarks are a nice and pretty good quality boot at a fraction of the price. Makes me chuckle to myself that a few years ago (before this addiction!) £80 would be more than enough to spend on such things..!! :s

    I just received an alternative that I don't think anyone has noticed yet. They are the Johnston and Murphy Hattington boot. Color is just about spot on. While they are not up to the quality of Churches or Crockett Jones I think Johnston and Murphy's are probably comparable to the Clark's. I actually found them more comfortable than the Clark's. The best thing is that they retail for around $200 although I think you can find them much cheaper than that on the Internet. I found mine on eBay for a hundred dollars shipped.

    These are also good for the US crowd as they should be readily available in any place sells Johnston and Murphy shoes.

    Received my Loake Bedale's yesterday via Shoe Healer in Doncaster and can report during these early stages very impressed with them. Very well made, from the Loake 1880 range so made entirely in Kettering, Northants. Grained calf uppers, with the Goodyear welted Victory rubber sole (which seems incredibly solid BTW).

    Pics on the tinterweb do show them with quite a reddish tinge, mine are a nice rich dark brown. As I say construction is spot-on, very stiff at the moment and need a good thrashing to soften them up a bit. The Pennine G last they are built on is described as very generous and I was worried my usual 9.5UK size would be too roomy but they are fine. Compared to my Ryder 3s (9.5 F), the Bedale's are just right, my Ryders can get a little snug after some time worn.

    For £210, they are an excellent chunky alternative to the C&J Islay albeit with a slightly different vibe but I just couldn't justify the C&Js at twice the price.

    A deffo recommendation from me.

    I second the Johnston and Murphy Hattington boots. They are extremely comfortable and worth the pricetag. If I had the means I would probably try to track down the actual boots but for me it is a welcome substitute.

    A huge third for the Johnston and Murphy Hattingtons.

    1) They're on sale right now for $130
    2) Pretty deece quality
    3 [and a huge 3]) I was at the Crockett & Jones store in Manhattan buying the Highburys w/ the lodge outfit on and the salesperson specifically complimented their look/quality

    Pretty happy with the crafty reduction of my total bill for lodge boots + London shoes from what would have been ~$1,435 to ~$750.

    Hey guys, couldn't resist and had to buy them, ended up getting a good deal on them, they still have a few pairs left as follows 1 pair of size 40, 2x 41, 2x 42 and 4x 44. The guy was really nice and turned out to be a Bond fan so he sold me them for 130euro ( 100pounds!) The fit is excellent, very comfortable and I can see why they will have chosen these kind of boots for the skyfall scene. The quality is awesome and they are made in Italy by a british company called wexford. If anyone wants a pair, I will be passing back through that area on monday.

    I just bought these from Schuh on Oxford Street in London for £90.

    http://www.schuh.co.uk/mens-dark-brown-base-london-frost-brogue-boot/3202066120

    What I liked about these:
    * dark brown in colour, not tan
    * rubber sole
    * slim height (if that makes sense). A few alternative brands I tried were too chunky in the toe, or the sole.

    These look quite sleek with dark brown jeans or cords.

    Following the advice of several other posters in this thread, I ordered myself a pair of the Johnston & Murphy Hattington boots last week, since they were on sale for $170 CDN. They just arrived today, and I couldn't be happier! They're very stylish, comfortable, and almost identical to the C&J Islays! I'm looking forward to wearing them with my Barbour jacket.

    I bought this boots some weeks ago. Excelent quality and very comfortable. They are not as cheap as another alternatives but I think they are the most similar boots I've ever found.
