Skyfall has received three nominations from the Chicago Film Critics Association. Together with their Boston counterparts they are the most significant regional critics group in the US after New York and Los Angeles.
The three nominations are as follows.
Judi Dench - Best Supporting Actress
Roger Deakins - Best Cinematography
Stuart Baird - Best Editing

Congratulations to Javier Bardem who won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Satellite Awards yesterday for his performance as Raoul Silva in Skyfall. He beat Alan Arkin (Argo), Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), and Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln).

The five nominations are as follows.
Skyfall - British Film of the Year

The production designers behind the James Bond franchise will receive the Cinematic Imagery Award from the Art Directors Excellence in Production Design Awards. Sir Ken Adam, Peter Lamont, Allan Cameron and Dennis Gassner will receive the award at the February 2nd 2013 ceremony, which will honor 50 years of the longest running franchise in film history for its visionary and innovative design.
Sony Pictures and MGM have put together four posters entitled 'For Your Consideration' designed for the awards season, particularly aimed at the Academy Awards and BAFTA.
If "SKYFALL" receives major Oscar nominations, I will be very surprised. After all, it failed to achieve major Golden Globe nominations (aside from Best Song). And honestly, there are simply too many movies that are better.

Movies that are better? I don't mean to be argumentative ( ) ) but better according to whom? Not the critics. If you look at Rotten Tomatoes, Skyfall gets a 92, compared to Argo (96), Amour (93), Moonrise Kingdom (94), Zero Dark Thirty (93), Lincoln (91), Django Unchained (89) and Life of Pi (89).
An argument can be made that Skyfall should get a nomination in recognition of what the Bond series has done for the movie industry over the last 50 years. Finally, it's made a ton of money this year, something not to be overlooked.
The Best Picture Oscar Nominations were expended to up to 10 a few years ago because Dark Knight was overlooked and it was felt that there should be a place for well made, creative, action pictures. Skyfall would seem to fit the bill.
Still, we'll see when the Producer's Guild come out with their nominees. If Skyfall is on the list, it will probably get an Oscar nomination.
I expect the Abraham Lincoln film to be the one to scoop the all AAs this year, given the iconic nature of the subject matter plus the fact that the academy likes actors (DDL) who "dress up" for a part
Producer's Guild selects Skyfall as one of ten movies nominated for its Best Picture Award. I give it a 50-50 shot at a Best Picture Academy Award Nomination. Of course, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo got a Producer's Guild nomination but no AA nomination.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that the 85th Oscars will feature a televised tribute to the 007 franchise. "We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th anniversary," said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "Starting with Dr. No back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon."

The 6th Annual Houston Film Critics Society Awards took place on Saturday at the Museum of Fine Arts. Skyfall received two awards, Adele and Paul Epworth for Best Song, and Roger Deakins for Best Cinematography. -{
Skyfall is one of five films nominated for the top award by the Cinema Audio Society, a non-profit organisation that honours the art of sound mixing in film and television. The Cinema Audio Society is one of two groups that give awards for sound work. Its awards - made in two film and four TV categories - are minimal compared to the nearly twenty categories handed out by the Motion Picture Sound Editors, who will announce their nominations in mid-January.
The five nominated Live Action films are as follows.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Les Miserables
Lincoln
Skyfall
Zero Dark Thirty
Roger Deakins has received the Best Cinematography award from the Online Film Critics Society, which is one of the largest critics' groups, consisting of 186 critics from 19 countries around the world.
According to the Daily Record, Oscar bosses have invited all six Bond actors to appear together on stage as part of their tribute to the James Bond films. Sir Sean Connery has shunned Bond re-unions after a four decade feud with film bosses over his pay and treatment. But associates of Connery say the Oscars offer is a "different proposition". The Bond actors may also be joined by Adele. If she is officially nominated for Best Song, she will then be invited to perform Skyfall live.
personally I don't believe the films should win an oscar. It isn't Bond at all. There are no great acting performances that require an oscar. The films being brilliant and loved as we do is enough, without needing the oscars to somehow validate it.
Daniel Craig attended the 2013 National Board of Review Awards Gala held at Cipriani 42nd Street on Tuesday (January 8th) in New York City. Skyfall was recognized as part of the "50 Years of Bond Films," which received the William K Everson Award For Film History.

Roger Deakins has been nominated in the feature film category of the 27th Annual American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Awards for Outstanding Achievement. The winner will be announced at the ASC Awards celebration on February 10 at the Hollywood & Highland Grand Ballroom. This is the eleventh time Deakins has been nominated. He won ASC awards for The Shawshank Redemption (1995) and The Man Who Wasn't There (2002). He was also the recipient of the organization's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
The nominees for Outstanding Achievement In Cinematography are as follows.
Seamus McGarvey - Anna Karenina
Danny Cohen - Les Miserables
Claudio Miranda - Life of Pi
Janusz Kaminski - Lincoln
Roger Deakins - Skyfall

"Original Song" was expected, but "Original Score" is a pleasant surprise! I really hope Roger Deakins can receive his first win for "Cinematography." Skyfall really was a beautiful film. (IMO, he should win for the silouette fight scene alone.) Sound Mixing and Sound Editing are always tough to predict because you never know what the voters are really paying attention to. All in all, it's good to see 5 nominations! Plus, the whole world will be focused on Bond for the special tribute. A good time to be a Bond fan! :007)
Five nominations is impressive. Perhaps no surprise that Skyfall was not nominated for Best Picture. No nod for Javier Bardem either, I thought he had a decent chance. But a few around here will be surprised by Thomas Newman's nomination. Congratulations to him, Adele, Roger Deakins, and the Sound Editing and Sound Mixing people. -{
