I've heard a lot of politically-active Academy members recently say they won't vote for Zero-Dark-Thirty in any category because it condones torture. Wonder if these same delightful sorts - who seem incapable of separating movies from real life (unless it's a film like 'Che' or something akin to their own political views) - are the ones who have prevented any James Bond film from winning any Oscars in decades because the films condone sexism, violence etc etc etc.
Unfortunately most of these nimrods who make these type of statements haven't even seen the film yet.
Apparently from some reviews I have read, the film neither condones nor rebukes torture but puts it out there and leaves it to the audience to draw their own conclusions.....to actually use some critical thinking instead of just falling in line with whatever extremist view one might have. Unfortunately many of my fellow Americans don't want to be bothered with having to question or think for themselves when it's easier to just have talking heads on TV or the radio do it for them.
Skyfall has received three nominations for the 60th Motion Picture Sound Editors' Golden Reel Awards. The Golden Reel Awards recognize sound editing in 22 categories encompassing feature films, television, animation, computer entertainment and student work. The awards ceremony will be on the 17th February.
Skyfall has been nominated in the following three categories.
Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects and Foley in a Feature Film
Best Sound Editing: Dialogue and ADR in a Feature Film
Best Sound Editing: Music in a Feature Film
What bothers me re the Academy Awards (I actually could really care less; I like what I like) and lack of recognition for the Bond films is not so much that the films have never won Best Picture or any acting awards....(let's be honest, they are genre films) but not winning any technical achievement awards except for once (TB/Special effects) is mind boggling. No award for Art Direction, Set Design, Cinematography or editing is a crime. Not to mention no Barry scores or Barry penned theme songs have ever won. What a joke.....

I wonder if any of them are aware of the rather enormous historical inaccuracies in Lincoln?

so true they totally left out any reference to his vampire hunting past!!!!
Remember the awards are voted for by people in the same category. So Sound Editors will vote for Sound Editing. Sound Mixers for Sound Mixing, Cinematographers for Cinematography, etc. Only the acting, song and best picture is open to all the academy. So don't hang the whole academy for snubbing set design and scores in the past. Their peers just weren't that impressed.
It's The Academy of Motion Picture "Arts and Sciences", so popcorn pictures (action, comedy) are usually overlooked. As much as we love the Bond franchise, they really are just great action movies. Not so much the "art" but plenty of the "science".
Having said that, I have high hopes for the sound nods. Karen Baker Landers is the first female sound editor for any Bond film, and has already won the award for her work on the Bourne franchise. And the sound on Skyfall was top notch.

In the past serveral action, science fiction, and other popular movies have won in the technical award categories so I am feeling pretty optimistic about Skyfall winning. I also think that is nice that Skyfall got nominated since none of the pervious six film even got one nomination.
Skyfall has been nominated for five awards by the London Film Critics' Circle. The 33rd London Critics' Circle Film Awards will be held at London's May Fair Hotel on 20th January in aid of the charity Missing People.
The five nominations are as follows.
Skyfall - British Film of the Year
Javier Bardem - Supporting Actor of the Year
Judi Dench - Supporting Actress of the Year
Daniel Craig - British Actor of the Year
Judi Dench - British Actress of the Year
Five nominations but no joy at the 33rd London Critics' Circle Film Awards.
Berberian Sound Studio won British Film of the Year
Philip Seymour Hoffman won Supporting Actor of the Year
Anne Hathaway won Supporting Actress of the Year
Toby Jones won British Actor of the Year

Adele will be performing Skyfall live at the Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has tweeted "Best 4 Words Ever: Adele Performing At #Oscars". They have also put together a gallery dedicated to Bond Theme Songs.
Rotten Tomatoes, the webs leading aggregator of reviews from top movie critics, has announced the recipients of its annual Golden Tomato Awards. Skyfall has received two awards, Action/Adventure (92%), and Top United Kingdom Release (92%). -{
Producer's Guild selects Skyfall as one of ten movies nominated for its Best Picture Award. I give it a 50-50 shot at a Best Picture Academy Award Nomination. Of course, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo got a Producer's Guild nomination but no AA nomination.
Skyfall has received recognition from the Screen Actors Guild with a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Javier Bardem. The 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards will be presented at a Los Angeles ceremony on the 27th January 2013.

I am glad the Stunt Team won an award, since they are literaly putting themselves in harm's way to make the film exciting in terms of action squences. Gary Powell really did a fantastic job with planing and excuting the stunts in Skyfall.
An official promo for the Oscars has been released, which this year features a tribute to the James Bond films. Host Seth MacFarlane introduces and then appears as a barman opposite Pierce Brosnan's Bond.

There are no panels or juries. Feature length films of any genre and from any country of origin were eligible for consideration provided they had a UK theatrical release between 10th February 2012 and 8th February 2013.

Wasn't best British film voted by the general public? .
BAFTA members vote for Best Brit Film. It's an odd category. Basically means Best British film that isn't actually good enough to be among the Best Film nominees.
Congratulations to 'Skyfall' & all the other boring films that won awards last night.
