The Benson books

I'm half way through Colonel Sun and then I'm going to get into Gardner's work. But is it worth me reading Benson's books? I remember trying a long time ago with High Time To Kill and giving up on it. Maybe I was too young?

I wouldn't stop you reading them.
    I wouldn't recommend it either.

His first two—Zero Minus Ten and Facts of Death—were OK, but not great. It was a steep downwards spiral after that. There were some very embarrassing scenes in his books (two words: sperm bank) and some of the things he did with at least one of Fleming's characters were infuriating. I much prefer Gardner, and I'm not even that much of a Gardner fan.

That being said, I'd consider reading at least one or two Bensons just so you know what his work is like.
