also, no one at the theater cheered and clapped when Dimitri's Aston Martin pulls up to the hotel, yet Skyfall's garaged Aston Martin is met with resounding applause, whistles and loud (and obnoxious) "YEEEAAHHHRRRGG!!!"s.
how does THAT fit into the formula??
Not to be an ass, but which of the 3,400 theaters that showed Casino Royale are you referring to?
As far as I can recall, Dimitrios' car's first entrance was merely a playback on a CCTV recording. Not exactly a cinematic moment begging for attention, and not nearly as obvious of a 'Bond moment' as the one in Skyfall with the theme song. But when Bond wins the car and the valet pulls it up, I do distinctly remember some excited whispers amongst moviegoers, if not claps or cheers.
Wait a minute, what does this have to do with anything?
The clever Bond turnaround in the DB5 did get laughs in my viewing.
I was discussing this earlier yes I know its a bit fanboy but they have kind of set it up to be analysed. When I first saw it and they introduced Q, moneypenny and the new M I thought ah so then DC's films occur before Dr No (a logical initial conclusion I think if you arent seriously thinking about the previous films). It was only while watching the Bond documentary on Sky that it even dawned on me that JD had played M in PB's films.
As someone pointed out to me Bond gets his 00 status in CR, which does imply its the first story for him as 007 therefore it has to really be considered a separate time line to the previous films, unless you subscribe to the "James Bond is just a code name" theory but then that doesn't fit with various events in both DC's version or earlier ones.

Honestly, I was just going to assume that the 'M' in the DC movies was a different one from the Peirce Brosnan films. Like the younger Judi Dench was a different 'M' from the older Judi Dench 'M'. Just a cheap quick fix, you know. I wander if they'll actually offer an explanation someday.
To me, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace came before Dr No. Technically impossible considering the level of technology in the films compared to Dr No in the 60's but it was just a cool idea from the producers to tell the story of how Bond became a 00. They weren't exactly going to film it as if it was in the 50's/60's were they? It's just them telling the story in a modern way - Impossible to actually fit into the timeline if you really think about it, but then again it would be impossible for Bond to be doing all these missions anyway if you actually analyse the timeline at all. So it's nothing to worry about - just a modern take on the beginning of Bond - a cool idea, nothing more! Skyfall would then come after Die Another Day and continue the timeline as usual.
