You can get special authorisation to keep handgun still but 99.9% of people will be rejected.

It's the same with some of the bigger firing weapons you can own them but you will have to be pretty friendly with your local firearms officer!

I would imagine it will be deactivated

    :))

Crazy crap. Handguns allowed in NI but not in UK.

No offence to our Irish members, just seems a bit odd that.

    Nope I'm afraid not!

Some handguns get through legislation too by adding a piece of wire bar to it making it longer therefore classed as a rifle, even though quite obviously a handgun.

Certain people can even own automatic weapons via and application to the secutery of state or can own a 50 cal gun in the uk on a standard firearms certificate but need special permissions!

Although there are only certain ranges in the uk, which makes it limiting and at around 6 or 7 quid per shot makes it an expensive but very nice toy!

A civvy with automatic rifles, and handguns? Sorry I just can't believe that.

I know about the long arm pistols though.

In NI pistols are still section one, they are also allowed in some circumstances as personal protection weapons. I have aTanfoglio, 1911 Witness Elite in .45 that i shoot every week at my local club, I also have a GSG-5 the .22 semi auto copy of the MP5 at the minute I am in the market for another pistol that costs a little less than 36 pence a round to shoot so that P99 would do nicely (£11 for 50 rds) I am also looking for a full bore target rifle preferably in 7.62.

    My 1911

How do you find the GSG?

I've heard crap stories of reliability issues and it being poorly made, thin barrelled and the bolt is in 2 halves held together by short countersunk m/c screws?! :s

    I'm saving for a Sig 522 :D

The only problem I have found is that it is a bugger for cleaning, especially after being used to the real MP5. I have had very few stoppages and those were due to the ammo, accuracy is great, rested I can get 1/2" groups at 25 mtrs and on a standard 25 mtr small bore target I have scored low-mid 90s with it . The bolt is held together with screws but it is not designed to be taken apart, you will find that those having problems with it have stripped it down to the last bit ,that should only be done by a gunsmith/armourer. Main thing is it is a hell of a lot of fun to shoot :D
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
Sawn the barrel off yet? :))

I'm gonna save and get the sig, got a loooong way to go though :(

Did consider the HK 416 .22 but read awful reviews on it.

I owned a P-99 and, although the P-99 is a rather sexy / ergonomic / Buck Rogers-futuristic weapon, it is without question NOT the best choice for concealment as seen in CR. It is just too bulky to fit in the small of the back or inside the belt on the sides. Additionally, there are too many edges to catch on to make a smooth draw. Finally, the mags are rather over-priced at $65.00 US each and not readily available. In the end, I traded it in for an M n P Pro (9mm). It was larger but more practical on the range. Looking forward to handling the PPQ 9mm.

I own a PPQ, and find it a much better shooting gun than the P99. Still not for concealment though

Tempted http://www.waltherarms.com/products/handguns/ppks-22/ I know it is a cheaper made version but original PP/PPK pistols are like hens teeth here at the minute (I have been looking) and this would give me a very low cost pistol shooting option with a classic look.

Skyfall accurate model (London Scenes). Even the proof mark is in almost exactly the same place. Good find.
