Really? Why do you think he made Raiders of the Lost Arc?

Yeah, but he wanted a big slice of the gross and that ruled him out. Even today, I think, the producers don't hire big A-names for that reason. Moore himself says how he thought he was onto something when he met Spielburg and discovered the same, only to hotfoot it to Cubby with the good news, who replied, 'Yeah, but have you heard how much money he's after?' And that was that.

Yes, Roger Moore bumped into Steven Spielberg in Paris and then rushed back to London to tell Broccoli & Saltzman, I believe he was genuinely enthused at the prospect of Spielberg directing him in a Bond film.

Saltzman? Must've been during or just before TSWLM, cause Spielberg didn't get big until after Jaws came out in '75.

Sean Connery being cast as Indiana Jones' father in The Last Crusade was an inside joke because if it wasn't for Bond, there'd be no Jones.

Roger Moore mentioned Saltzman in a recent interview. It was a long time ago and it's possible that Roger's memory was playing tricks on him. Steven Spielberg told the Daily Mail recently that "I went to Cubby Broccoli and I asked if I could do one and he said "No". I've never asked again. Instead I made the Indiana Jones series." No date was mentioned.

I'm thankful he never got a chance...would have preferred Hitchcock, but at least we have OHMSS!

think he would of suited doing a Bond film.
I don't know why, just my Opinion. :D

Because there'd always be a happy ending - even OHMSS for God's sake!

Well, back then the happy ending was always the norm for Bond. I mean, OHMSS IS the exception...

Yes, but Spielberg would have carried it over to DAF as I believe was the original plan - I think they did this in the YOLT radio adaptation in 1990.

OK, Spielberg was a nobody until Jaws in 1975. His first film was in 1971 with Duel, a TV Movie that was good enough that a saw limited release in theatres, and his first film was Sugarland Express, a Goldie Hawn film in 1974. He probably courted Bond during the mid-to-late '70's, up until Raiders was made anyway.
