Win, Lose or Die

Okay so for some reason I don't feel the need to read Gardner's books in order (though I did with Fleming's.) So after reading TMFB, I've decided to read Win, Lose or Die next. Why? First off because I've read that it has The Iron Lady in it which seems very Roger Moore-ish :007) Also becasue the title sounds a bit naff, I think it'll make an interesting Bond story. Asking out to those that have read Win, Lose or Die, what were your thoughts?

Win, Lose Or Die is one of Gardner's better Bond novels...it puts Bond back on a naval ship and promotes him to the rank of Captain...I hope you enjoy it -{

WLOD is probably the best of Gardner's suspect 'middle period' (books 7 to 11) [my term!] It is a trifle slow and as always with Gardner the character names are an unpronouncable mishmash, leading to very unexciting personas. What he does do, as pointed out by Sir Miles, is provide us with a lot of well written action and a few twists that unusually take a first time reader by surprise. The plot's a bit of a muddle - but all Gardner's plots are a mess - so if you can get over that, you'll probably enjoy it. Oh, and the heroine reads like a dish...

Started reading it yesterday. I'm enjoying it so far and I'm warming to Gardner's work.

I found Win, Lose or Die to be a decent read. You can definitely do a lot worse when it comes to Bond continuation novels.

I'm very interested in the role that Demonology plays in WLOD in the terrorist cover organisation Brotherhood for Anarchy and Secret Terror (BAST) with The Viper, The Man, The Snake and The Cat as the heads of the organisation. does anyone here know anything about Demonology at all? Gardner must have read up on the subject before writing WLOD - I wonder what book/research he used?
