If you have spare time you can read the 53 pages (and counting) dedicated solely to the lodge jacket! I warn you though you may be more confused about sizing than ever...

    Yes, that's why I ordered a small and a medium :)

Thanks for the explanation regarding the buttons ... certainly not something that would trouble me greatly.

Anyone care to have a pop at surmising the sizing debate as featured in the cited 53 page thread? :)

Those comments just about sum it up. No one knows definitively what size he wore. You may be able to find some random claims, but I don't think that anyone definitively knows his chest size either. EITHER WAY, his coats were altered, so the fit that he has in the movie isn't the same as an unaltered medium or large.

Is it the buttons or as my I sees, the pockets are higher?
    ?:)

First jacket is SA. Bottom button is inline with the buttons of the two side pockets. It also is closer spaced to the middle button.

Second jacket is not SA, as bottom button is lower than the buttons of the two side pockets, and has equal space to the middle button as the top button.

    Hi guys,

Is there anyone in the UK looking to sell a Large?

I was only able to get a Medium from Aspecto, but sizing has been playing on my mind and really want to try a Large.

    Let me know.

    Cheers

Hey guys, slightly off topic but if anyone is looking for a budget alternative of the N peal to go under your jackets, I picked up this beauty for myself. If anyone is interested I bought two an M and an L but they sent me two M's which is great cause the M fits perfectly. I am 5,11 and weigh 92kgs muscular not fat. So this is more of an L in fit. It is a touch darker, but the wool is nice and the fit is awesome. I paid $30 for it so anyone interested you can have it for the same plus whatever shipping is.

Hi Friend I might be interested in swapping my brand new size small for your medium.

    Hey there,

just received a Large which I'd like to swap for a Medium.
SA or not SA doesn't matter to me. Mine is not SA.

Maybe someone from Germany is watching and wants to size up. :)

    Cheers

you kidding? SA is EVERYTHING! :))

It just weirds me out, the whole button thing. I mean, its almost like a purposeful mistake but why anyone would do it is beyond me.

Where are you based? I have a large I think is too big for me and am considering a medium

I will be getting a size small in the next couple days from J. Crew, but it might be too small for me. Anybody needing a small that has a medium to exchange? I'm located in Los Angeles.

    Hello, my first post!

Just got an XL delivered, doesn't have SA buttons which I actually prefer because I like the jacket and have no desire to cosplay and look like Bond :)) It fits well in the shoulders, but I feel it may be too roomy and would like to see if anyone with a Large is in the opposite situation as me. Not looking to sell so please no PMs enquiring about a sale. So if anyone would like to try and possibly exchange their L for my XL please PM me. If the L fits too tight in the shoulders I'll keep my XL and get the rest of it tailored through Barbour. I'm in the Cambridge area. The coat literally just arrived today, still has tags on it. I won't care if the L doesn't have tags attached as long as its fairly new and still has that oily feel to it. Would prefer a non SA version.

Incase my ajb opposite doesn't exist, anyone know of a Barbour store that will take the measurements for tailoring in the Cambridgeshire area?

Welcome. I contacted Barbour customer service about alterations for my jacket and was told they only shorten sleeves or do repairs. Not take in or let out jackets. You may need to go to a tailor for that. FYI I'm in the UK so contacted Barbour here.

Thanks for information. If a tailor takes the jacket in he probably isn't going to have Barbour's wax thread, so that isn't a route I want to go down. I plan on getting a lot of use from the jacket so I only want alterations done through Barbour. I got this one off of eBay, luckily I didn't pay a high markup on it either, so will Barbour still do alterations if I don't have the original receipt? The Mrs thinks the coat looks fine on me, but then she thinks the sleeves are fine as well :)) Definitely need a few CMs taken in on the sleeves. Hopefully someone with a Large going for XL pops up and I can at least give it a try. Don't want to spend money to buy a Large on eBay.

    Hi,

I finally had my jacket show up today and have a few questions that if anyone can answer me with (or at least give opinion) will, hopefully, mean I won't need to swap mine (i fear the next size up will swamp me).

I ordered a large and it fits nicely but it is snug across the back and in the armpits - I can drive it but not cross my arms!

So I think it's best going to an independent tailor but:

    1) How have people got on with getting the back let out; have tailors made a good job and is there actually much material to be 'let out'? (I could do with at least an inch, possibly two)
    2) Has anyone successfully shortened the sleeves? If so, did you lose the leather cuffs or was it done another way?
    3) What have others done about the chest cuff/placket thing, has anyone had it taken off? I can see it's use when it's windy etc, but most of the time it seems slightly annoying and I find myself trying to tuck it out of sight.

I think that's it, the more answers the merrier as I'm not wildly keen on giving it to a tailor having spent so much on it. I did trawl through about 10 pages of the other Lodge thread but couldn't find what i needed.

    I eagerly await your replies!

    Thank you

oooh ... lastly, the hood zip - are we generally just leaving that? Again, I can't see me using the hood so if I do take it to a tailor, I might get that sorted too

The general rule on jackets is to buy them to fit your back/shoulders. Everything else can be taken in because you have excess material to begin with. What you are asking isn't impossible, but if there isn't enough material left over within the seems it won't be possible. It was stated above that Barbour won't take in/take out coats. Sleeves are easy and Barbour will do those. I have no comment on #3.
