I finally had my jacket show up today and have a few questions that if anyone can answer me with (or at least give opinion) will, hopefully, mean I won't need to swap mine (i fear the next size up will swamp me).
I ordered a large and it fits nicely but it is snug across the back and in the armpits - I can drive it but not cross my arms!
So I think it's best going to an independent tailor but:
1) How have people got on with getting the back let out; have tailors made a good job and is there actually much material to be 'let out'? (I could do with at least an inch, possibly two)
2) Has anyone successfully shortened the sleeves? If so, did you lose the leather cuffs or was it done another way?
3) What have others done about the chest cuff/placket thing, has anyone had it taken off? I can see it's use when it's windy etc, but most of the time it seems slightly annoying and I find myself trying to tuck it out of sight.
I think that's it, the more answers the merrier as I'm not wildly keen on giving it to a tailor having spent so much on it. I did trawl through about 10 pages of the other Lodge thread but couldn't find what i needed.
I eagerly await your replies!
Thank you
The general rule on jackets is to buy them to fit your back/shoulders. Everything else can be taken in because you have excess material to begin with. What you are asking isn't impossible, but if there isn't enough material left over within the seems it won't be possible. It was stated above that Barbour won't take in/take out coats. Sleeves are easy and Barbour will do those. I have no comment on #3.
Thanks for the reply but I am hoping to hear from someone who has had the alterations done (plenty have).
This jacket fits me ever so nicely and, if anything, it's perhaps an inch too long so I'm almost certain that sizing up to an XL would be a terrible move. The L looks lovely, it's only when I start stretching my arms forward that there is an issue... these coats are clearly designed for very skinny tubular bodies asian gents. Makes it an odd choice for Bond but it looks great and DC's has clearly been altered to fit him so snugly but not over fit.

I haven't had my jacket let out but on the lodge jacket thread somebody commented they had. Apparently there's enough jacket material, but he had to have an extra strip of lining added on the inside.
Because I want my jacket screen accurate I am having the hood zip and buttons removed but keeping the wind protector. It depends on personal preference and what you will use the jacket for. I don't need a hooded jacket.

Let us know what you decide and enjoy your jacket
I've got an XL on the way as well now so will hopefully have one that fits or at least doesn't require much altering.
To those others that had both a Large and an XL in their hands, is the jecket length significantly longer? (I fear that the XL is going to drape down to my thighs!)

Thanks again for people's input
I have had both a L and a XL. There wasn't much difference in the body length but there was in the sleeve length.
On a complete aside, I have actually had two XLs and they are like different jackets. One was way bigger than the other.
Just received a XL jacket this morning. A little bit to big for me, looking to exchange for a L if possible. If not I will sell at cost (£400). As I still have the option for a refund.
Kind regards James
Jacket has now been returned to the supplier for a refund, as work has called me abroad at short notice. no longer available chaps.

I have a brand new with tags XXL for sale. I believe it has SA button spacing.
I'm open to offers and will post worldwide. I appreciate that many here won't want to pay over the odds for this and if thats the case i'll just put it on ebay, just thought i'd give those on this forum who may not have managed to acquire one the first chance to make me an offer.
First jacket is SA. Bottom button is inline with the buttons of the two side pockets. It also is closer spaced to the middle button.
Second jacket is not SA, as bottom button is lower than the buttons of the two side pockets, and has equal space to the middle button as the top button.
Are there 2 different versions of the same jacket? I mean does one have a option of which one they want or does one have to get it manually adjusted to look SA? I also noticed that the SA version is more brown than the non SA.
As someone who has both a Large and an XL, both from the same batch and store, I think I can clear up the fact that XL's do not have SA button spacing. Odd that they're different but that's how it is.

Anyone have a medium or considering selling a medium , uk based , pm me.

I second that, I have a L and XL from same batch and the buttons aren't "SA" on the XL.
so I need to stick with the XXL then if I want SA button placement?
Does no one have a SA XL then? Where any made full stop?
If you look at the Lodge jacket thread, I know of one member: RogueTrooper who bought a SA XL in 2012. When he bought another XL in 2013 it was not SA.

So i took my two jackets into a tailor today (the Large is quite 'snug; while the XL far too big on me). On the tailor's advice I'm going to hang onto the Large and see how it stretches, what with it being cotton and all and it looking much better on me.
Anyway, I now have the XL going spare, which I have the option to return, put on ebay or sell to a pal. That said, I know a lot of people here are dead keen to get one of these so I will listen to offers.
I'm in the UK but ordered these from a European store so have paid a lot of additional fees and taxes and Bank charges (anyone else get stung for 'swift' charges?) as well as quite a high store price.
I think in all I paid well over $600 Euros for the jacket including shipping and fees, but please make offers in Sterling.
It's brand new, all tags still attached and, from what I've been told, one of the last ToKiTo versions of the Barbour Sports jacket before the 'watered down' version is released in the Autumn.
I can email or put pictures up if anyone would like, although I know everyone here knows exactly how cool these jackets are...particularly if you've read through nearly 70 pages on the subject!
Anyway, the offers there, let me know if you're keen.
Ah first time poster, I love this forum, and learnt soo much from reading it. Keep up the good work guys.
I got 1 Small with the adjustments. 1 small without. and 1 XL without adjustments, if anyone is interested. Email: kitmanwong8@hotmail.com.
Wow you have three who's been a bit of a greedy boy then
Ha, bought one medium and one small, not knowing which will fit. But the others were available and my mate wanted one and then he couldn't stump up the cash and then it was too late to return and then they're now up for sale.

XL must have the correct buttons please. I'm near Gatwick Airport.
