What you want to see in the next Bond game...

I am hoping that for the next Bond game outing, whether it be a film tie-in or otherwise, Acitivsion have learned from past mistakes OR handed the license to somebody like Rocksteady. Every single one of Acitivision's Bond games have been pretty much awful with the exception of the slightly more bearable GoldenEye: Reloaded. I used to get really excited at the prospect of a new Bond game (Nightfire being my favourite so far - not including GoldeneEye 64) but now I just sigh at the first sign of a new release as I know it will be the same lazy entry, the may as well call them Call of Duty: Modern Bond, Call of Duty: Bond Ops, Call of Duty: Bond at War etc. Her is what I wish to see in the future:
Larger levels - The Bond games need to have larger levels overall that aren't completely linear like they have been lately. I have been playing Dishonored lately and I love the way that you have a main base of operations (The Pub) and you travel off for your different missions, this would work in a Bond game if done properly, imagine exploring a vast MI6 acting as a base of operations before leaving and jetting off to certain locations to complete objectives, then returning to upgrade/replace equipment, have some training etc. I think this would be aswome!
More choice - There is no choice involved in Bond games anymore, you go down the one path to reach main objectives, there doesn't seem to be any optional side missions or objectives anymore, also we need the freedom to choose our own path and way of completing the level, for example rather than opting for a huge firefight you could choose to take a quiter more espionage type route.
More stealth - The latest Bond games have all been COD clones as stated above and I'm sick of it, I'm sick of having a piss poor stealth system that allows you to sneak for a short while without being spotted but then you are caught no matter what, even if the enemies clearly can't see you then you are forced into a massive firefight. Let us choose to be stealthy, silencers that work, knives, even non-lethal takedowns and the ability to move/hide bodies from other guards to avoid being caught, I used to love the stealth missions in the older games sneaking about with a dart gun in TWINE and if you are caught its Mission Failed, in order to pass the mission you need to study enemy movements etc. and pick your moments wisely.
Less enemies - The amount of enemies in Bond games lately are riduclous and the are forever spawning, I was playing the Severnya mission in GE:Reloaded and I swear you can't completely remove the threat of guards, I was shooting them for ages and more just kept replacing them! You are expected to believe that Bond can simply take on entire bloody armies in one foul swoop! It just get's manic and pointless, I hate shooting things constantly! Sometimes is good but not all the time, and they are never very engaging fights either, I found myself not caring whether I won or lost, I wanted to be able to figure out how to best to win the fights but they were just random, there was no skill involved.
More driving - Enough Said.
Weapons and Gadgets: Gadgets may have been down-played in the recent films but they would go greatly in a video game, I am sick of only having 'My Smartphone' as a gadget to scan bloody laptops (Sony ones), I want a grapple, dart pen, Q-Spider, Remote mines, Laser watch etc. in my Bond games, give us that at least even if the films wont! Also the ability to carry a great range of weapons, I know only having 2-3 is more realistic but who cares! I want a whole arsenal of awesome weapons to collect, snipers, assualt weapons, rockets, mines, grenades, pistols. none of this 'Hold X to Swap' Bulls**t!
Good balance of story and multiplayer - too often nowaydays, especially with Activision, the actual story campaign is kicked aside in favour of online multiplayer, I am not a massive fan of online gaming, due to some immature people who take it too seriously and are vulgar to each other or to people who may not have spent every waking second perfecting their abilities within the game, but, I don't mind some games with online multiplayer, so it's fine to have it, but for chirsts sake the main story should be the main focus, I hate seeing an oppurtunity wasted in favour of online stuff, a bond game needs to be a great, story-driven experience aswell as fun to play, focus on that more! Also Bond games NEED local multiplayer! not just online! Did GoldenEye 64 have online? No it didn't yet apparently these companies with all this technology just can't seem to learn from a game like Goldeneye that was such a simple game yet it was beautiful and an amazing experience!
I am sure there are other things a Bond game should have but thats all I can think of at the moment, what do you want to see next?

* I have not played the Skyfall sections of 007 Legends, but based on the reviews of ther earlier parts of the game they must be any better.
all the recent games just seem to be exactly the same just different locations
plus still gutted how they changed the characters for the Goldeneye remake!! |)
And drive an Aston Martin in an open world.
In general though, I like that Bond is providing an opportunity to play a British badass, so I'd kinda want him to continue to keep pace with other video game characters in ass kicking ability.
Also. It would be great with a really large game (similar to Mass Effect or Dragon Age), maybe containing all the films and somewhat re-imagining of the order of the films and events.
An open world with side missions and then Bond can go to the MI6 HQ to start a "main mission". We could begin with Casino Royale>QoS>Skyfall>Dr.No.>FRWL>Goldfinger> and so forth. And as I said it would be a kind of re-imagining so we get a connection through all the mission (eg. the same Bond, no "second introduction" between Bond and Blofeld etc.). It would be a huge game, but hey I've played Mass Effect for well over 100 hours.
Maybe separate the story into two games?
In the First game Bond needs to deal with Quantum and add some other main missions not connected to any larger "organization" (like LALD, GG, OP). In the next game Bond will deal with Spectre (movies like Dr.No-DAF) and also some other missions not connected with SPECTRE (maybe some of the later movies like Goldeneye, TND etc.). It would also use the same technology of "save file tranfer" used in Bioware games (Mass Effect), choices you make throughout your missions will have consequences in the future. The duology ends with an epic battle against SPECTRE and Blofeld.
I would love more stealth ala Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I haven't liked the way they've used stealth in recent "Stealth Action" games which seem to be more focused on fire fights.
Give me a solid soundtrack like GoldenEye 64.
Wouldn't mind seeing it being based on an old film like they did with From Russia With Love. Live and Let Die perhaps? Roger Moore has done a lot of voice work in the past and while he is a bit older now and his voice is a little more gruff, it would be awesome to have him included.
to get the full ageing Bond effect. )
What movie do you think best suits a game adaptation? FRWL was great because it is a very story driven film that translates well to cut scenes in a video game.
" I don't listen to hip hop!"
Encountering Baron Samedi would be sweet too.
It's great to dream. Doubt they would do this, but one can hope. Maybe a fan made mod on another video game that's already been published. Wouldn't be the same, but at least a taste.
Controlling the car after your driver gets shot.
Fight with TeeHee on the train.
Double decker bus chase.
Taking Mrs Bell for her flying lesson )
One of the bosses could be the snake which you can only defeat with an aerosol can and a cigar )
Okay maybe scrap the last two.
Connery: TB (I'd pick FRWL, but they've already done it!)
Lazenby: Obvious
Moore: MR because there are so many varied locations that would work. Really any Moore movie would be a great adaptation because there are so many action set pieces.
Dalton: TLD
Brosnan: GE (though nearly all of Brosnan's have already been adapted)
See this is where playing those "failed" games comes in handy, you might not fight him, but the fun house was a multiplayer level for GE Rogue Agent back on the PS2, Xbox and GC.
The problem is, is that no matter WHO gets the license, they will mirror the game after what their best games. Activision was Call of Duty (ha ha ha ha). The company that has expressed interest in doing one, Telltale games, their best are those episodic games like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, which except for the episodic part, might not be too bad of an idea. Ubisoft would be either Far Cry or the Tom Clancy games.
The only way it wouldn't would be if Eon were to make a game division and do it themselves.
I liked GoldenEye Reloaded and to a degree QoS. I HAD hopes for 007 Legends and while I commend them for trying, it left a lot to be desired. But the problem is GoldenEye 64 set the bar so high that only a few have even been able to scrape at it. Like Nightfire. In fact only Perfect Dark 64 surpasses it in my opinion.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing a REAL 007 Racing game, not like the abomination on the Playstation, but a real one with the famous and infamous cars from throughout the bond universe and maybe have the multiplayer based on Twisted Metal, that way the gadget cars could be used too.
1: Brosnan 2: Craig 3: Moore 4: Dalton 5: Connery and 6: Lazenby
It's a shame that I didn't really play Bond games back then as passionately as I do now. I missed pretty much everything on the PS1 and PS2 bar TND. I've recently gone back and played FRWL and EON and while both amazing games, it's a pity the graphics and gameplay feel a little bit dated.
Anyway I agree that they could do a lot worse than to use Telltales games engine. I'm a massive fan of the Walking Dead game and the story telling they could bring to the Bond universe would be amazing. Failing that if you want a full on action game then they could do worse than to use Eidos who created the Tomb Raider games. The reboot of the franchise was great and I could see a lot of those set pieces being used in a Bond game.
Have really complicated rules like " Escape from Colditz"
and lots of little figures, with chance cards, helping you
get out of up coming perils.
With The Archers playing on BBC radio 4, and a steaming
cup of hot chocolate, then off to bed.
Non of this electronic rubbish ! )
