The fake stuff in Bond movies

We have moved from cheap, fake rear-projections in the earlier Bond movies to expensive, fake CGI in the latest ones.
The difference to ME is, that fake stuff was used sparingly in the past- now it's all over the bloody place.
I miss Derek Meddings' work SO much these days...

Your thoughts on this?

Nothing can replace someone actually performing the stunts! As to the technical side of cgi vs past film technology. I feel as a casual viewer I shouldn't notice the film technology. If I do, no matter how it's done, it was performed poorly. Real sfx should look as good as the live action if it doesn't it should hit the cutting room floor.

With that said I thought the dragon scene in Skyfall worked because it was meant to be fun while paying obvious homage to LALD.

And look on the bright side: we didn't get the one thing from LALD that entered into my mind the second I saw the title of this thread: a death similar to that of Kananga (seriously, have you ever laughed your head off when ANYONE in a film that wasn't a comedy got killed? I did with Kananga!).
