Hi Guys hope everyone is doing good and all set for Christmas - Just
treated myself to the SKYFALL cinema Standee as a gift to myself :))
from Santa :007) BARGAIN at £30 and only 5 mins Drive from my House
to Pick Up..... Very Happy :) in mint condition with original packaging etc

Ok what I wanted to chat about was JAWS's Metal Teeth - I am not
about to make a set or anything like that - not looking to buy any etc

Just wanted to hear a few opinions on something that's been bugging
me for a while, was going through my Hard Drive; Bond Prop Photos
and reference material and research tidying it all up into neat folders
etc which is what brought this to my attention - noticed it years ago
But my curiosity was Renewed from looking through photos earlier.

WHAT IS THE DEAL with Jaws ''ORIGINAL'' Prop Teeth and The ones EON
display at exhibitions and events? Does Anyone Know?

The Authentic Originals 100% worn by Richard Kiel in both Films

The Factory Entertainment Replicas Made from The original set - Even they have the little
center slit in the upper set to accommodate the skin structure we all have behind our upper
lips and mouth

The ODD Pair that surfaced around 2002 - I have a feeling these were maybe the teeth worn
by the guy in the Madonna DIE ANOTHER DAY music video who operates the Electric Chair -
They seem to have come about at the same time - Also they seem to be able to be worn by chat show Hosts and Others doing Bond Segments and Interviews - David Walliams pops them
in his mouth in the television show ''MY LIFE WITH JAMES BOND'' also recently worn by an
American TV show host in a Bond archives special in the show ''60 minutes'' Now these teeth
have been displayed at various Bond exhibitions and shows saying they are ORIGINAL teeth
Worn By Richard Kiel - But they differ WAY TOO MUCH from the original Set... and the people
who have popped them in seem to find them very comfortable - Yet poor Mr. Kiel - Could only
handle them for 30 seconds at a time :#

Also the image Above with the Cast in comparison looks more like the ODD Pair
rather than the Originals its beside... it may just be my bad eyesight though :)

Has the later Pair been made purely to allow them to be worn by people in
interviews and shows ...... Or Just a Back Up pair for exhibitions and Events?

Any info that will satisfy my Curiosity Guys would be great

I believe the bottom pic is of the original set, your top pic looks like the FE set, not the original. The '2002' set I dunno, did the argies ever do any? Where did you find the pic?

about ten years ago there were a few different sets of teeth knocking about. Did SD Studios actually release theirs? A guy in France made some http://www.jamesbondtoys.co.uk/watchout/buyerbeware.htm

Read the prop story booklet that comes with our teeth... it has pretty much the full story.

Our teeth were made using the original molds for the prop teeth, so they cannot be any more accurate and side by side are indistinguishable, in Fact EON often use a set of our teeth as their archive teeth to protect the originals.

The short story of the prop is, in chronological order.

    1) Prototype Teeth - Made in the USA by John Chambers (Planet Of The Apes), however these were made 'on spec' more as a concept and even before Richard Kiel was cast. They had a different look, allegedly more like a shark. But were dropped, partly for aesthetic reasons but mainly because they were too uncomfortable to wear and did not fit correctly. They where never seen on film and to the best of our knowledge where never even photographed. Their whereabouts is unknown.

    2) Actual screen used prop teeth - Only 1 set was made, by a dental technician Mr Peter Thomas , molded precisely to fit Richard Kiel's mouth, like a set of dentures, by taking a mold from his mouth and then building up the teeth on a reverse casting, then making a second mold from this and casting in dental grade surgical steel.

    3) Stunt teeth - various faux teeth were used by stuntmen for safety reasons, both plastic gum shield versions and orange peel wrapped in tin foil where used.

EON do have one or two sets of 'other' teeth in their archive, probably stunt teeth and probably some copies and casts made over the years. Because only one screen used set was ever made it is likley that at least one set of stand-ins or replacements was commissioned at some point. However only 1 set was ever used on film. The Producers had requested more than one, but they were so difficult to make Mr Thomas could not physically make more. He told us it was one of the hardest things he had ever done in his long history of producing dental prosthesis for film and TV.

It is possible that in the past copies were displayed incorrectly as originals. It is also possible that 'interview' sets have been made to 'wear' , or for commercials/videos. The real prop teeth are very hard to fit into an average sized mouth! But these where not by EON and are not in the archive.

    Hope that helps?

Your top pic looks like our prototype plastic teeth (we made one set for approvals in vac-plated resin) before we proceeded to final metal. Its the thickness of the walls that gives it away. The replicas and the original have fairly thick walls. The resin cast was much thinner. I think the bottom pic looks like the same thing... but i do not know where the plaster mold comes from, that's not ours. Looks like somebody tried to make a recast from something?

Sorry its taken me a while to reply - Been Busy with Xmas &
Family etc..... Thanks for the info Guys - Big help and Yea I
guess my curiosity is satisfied to a certain extent, Cheers :007)

minigeff which Picture are you referring to when you ask where
did I get the Pic? ... All of the pics I posted up were just on Google
searched ''Jaws Teeth'' till I found a photo of the set I was referring
to in the topic post. The photo of the ''ODD PAIR'' as I called them
I think were from the ''Bond Villains Exhibition'' that was running in
the States over the past few months. which also had an FE Golden
Gun on show in place of the original.

The first photo in my original Post is of the original set I believe - they
were in the DK book The Secret World Of James Bond that was published
way back in 1998 / 99 I think. The same original set sitting beside the
clay mold in the last picture.

Maybe eventually once FE has made most of the Bond props The Originals
might just reside in EON house / Prop Storage warehouse etc and EON
will just put on show FE props in their place... would mean they could put
on several Exhibitions at once and let them tour more locations

Like I say thanks for the info guys - appreciated - Hope you all had a great Xmas :007)
