Chances are they won't have any other options besides vermouth...but if they have either lillet blanc, or cocchi americano, i think(not having had the lillet blanc) that those would be your best bet.

Had my first Vesper martini tonight for my 24th Birthday, very strong drink, cant imagine Bond having 6 of these and then appearing so immaculate the next day )
Did Ian Fleming actually drink these himself? That just seems like way too much booze for one drink.

Actually drink sizes have changed over the years. In the 30's through probably the 60's a cocktail (martini) glass would hold something like 3 oz. Today try to even find a cocktail glass in a store under 8 oz. Almost impossible. At home I usually use vintage glasses much like the ones in the "Thin Man" movie series of the 30's. They are around 3 oz.
So...when they used to say "make it a double" that would equate to a modern single glass and even then not contain as much. A martini is not like a fruity cocktail or beer, it pure hard ligour. If you have one martini, you will feel it: two packs a punch, and three forget it - fist fights and divorce proceedings. If you are drinking modern 8 oz glasses that is 24 oz of hard liquor consumed. You will be toasted. When Bond said he had six martinis, he is lucky that he could stand. Remember the literary Bond quote that goes something like this - "I have only one cocktail, but it must be very cold, very large and very well made." Note that he wants ONE. Out to dinner? Start with one martini, then after switch to wine or beer. Bond does not appear in public drunk.
Bond: "But who would want to kill me, sir?"
M: "Jealous husbands, outraged chefs, humiliated tailors . . . the list is endless."

I simply add and stir at the table.
I should really try to find a shoulder-holster hip flask. If anyone knows where I can find one, let me know.
