How about this for the next Bond Film...?

Hey Bond fans,

After gathering negative reviews from people in our network who have seen Skyfall, my brother and I, being the hardcore Bond fans we have been since our childhood days, were discussing Skyfall upon seeing the film twice and were highly disappointed by how over-marketed the film was leading up to its release. We noticed the first 25 minutes felt like a true Bond film while the rest of the movie lacked in plot and character - felt like we were watching a totally different movie such as Taken or another Jason Bourne movie. I mean, come on: Bond drowning in his sorrows with a scorpion on his hand abandoned by MI6 in the middle of nowhere, Bond being the perfectionist we know failing his marksmanship test...that is not the Bond we know and it's safe to say we're under the impression that Bond is a has-been.

So, we were thinking since Daniel Craig's Bond is the prequel to all the Bond sequels from Connery onwards, how about this: make a prequel to the prequel of sequels - how Bond becomes an orphan, how he gets into Cambridge University and the Navy, how MI6 recruits him with a twist at the end of the film that James Bond is not his real name and that, along with 007, is the name given to him by MI6 (after all, his name and 007 is the brand). Kind of like The Saint meets Hannibal Rising meets M Night Shyamalan! And for the next film, EON Productions don't reveal its a Bond film to enhance that twist! Even better, I say get Christopher Nolan (Inception, Dark Knight) and his team to take charge of the next Bond film. And Foo Fighters do the Bond theme!

Any thoughts?

(P.S Daniel Craig seems more like a thug, a Bond villain, as opposed to Sean Connery or Tim Dalton who stayed true to Ian Fleming's vision of Bond)

I was sort of with this until you started with this nonsense about being given the name James Bond. This 'twist' as you described it has been discussed and debunked on other threads by members more intelligent than I; as a wise man said 'Kincaid would not have greeted Bond by a codename'.

Also we do not need to keep on with the reboot idea for the films, this premise might be a thought for a TV series but not a film.

Yes, I'd happily second that. The codename theory is a big heap of dung spouted by Lee Tamahori, director of DAD, the very worst James Bond film. Your proposal recalls Casino Royale the 1967 spoof where everybody ends up being called James Bond 007 (man or woman) to confuse the enemy...and that's not a good thing in my book as a Fleming purist!

Bit too 'Bourne' for my liking.

Bourne is good, bond is better, but keep them apart.

The foo's are ok but not for a bond theme.

"Make a prequel to the prequel of the sequel.."

Why not make a sequel to the sequel of the prequel's prequel's sequel?

I feel a a full on Alan Partridge, "You're getting Bond wrong." coming on.

And in my opinion Skyfall is a near perfect 007 film.

The only thing for me was putting the gun barrel at the start.
I understand why he put it where he put it but at the cinema I was at everyone stood up at the end to go home and I missed most of it. Bar that, perfection!

Oh god, how I hate the "James Bond" codename theory.
