Catching Bullets: An Excellent Analysis Of Bond Fandom

Happy New Year to everyone on this website. I hope 2013 brings joy & cheer to all.

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the literary section, but as it relates directly to the films I've popped it here.

I just wanted to say what a fine old time I've had reading Mark O'Connell's book, CATCHING BULLETS: MEMOIRS OF A BOND FAN over the holiday period. Not only wonderful from a Bond fan point of view but also an excellent bit of nostalgia for bygone days. His reviews of each film are witty & enlightening, nicely putting them in context of the world around him & his own aging.

It's nice to read pieces by someone trying to find the good in things rather than merely using it as a platform to slag off pet hates. As a result each film is given its own rapturous endorsement, never feeling just part of a long Top Ten list.

And another thing I'd never given much thought to is the difference between 'Best' & 'Favourite' Bond films. Not merely 'Guilty Pleasures' as we tend to call them, O'Connell gives validity for having both viewpoints stand alongside one another. Thinking on my own tastes it's certainly something I could apply to my own Bond viewing habits.

As I say, excellent stuff. Thanks Mr. O'Connell for an excellent read.

I will check out this book. Though invariably most of the good books about the Bond phenomenon are written by people who love the subject, I appreciate the idea of writing from the perspective of a being a fan.
