Yeah, I thought it was a pretty cool design.

It's always been an ambition of mine to build my own car, but when I say that, I mean one of my own design. If I did it, I'd go for something like this design, but loose the hardtop.

Trouble is I ain't got time space or coin :)) bugger.

One thing that I can't find info on is how the fibreglass shell fits on the body. How and where does it attach? Are mounting brackets moulded into the bodyshell as its being made or something?

If you'd make your own car without hardtop, it'll certainly look like that:

Here is some detail you might find useful which Ive just created for you Minigeff

Kit cars are much easier for a Vw beetle since you unbolt the shell and then bolt the other one on easy as pie

Vw kit cars which are done like this is the Karma, nova and eagle

    Karma

Bellow is some help for you Minigeff on how We are planning to do the DB5 kit car

Cheers brad, so I assume you're actually doing this db5 replica build then? Private venture or you going commercial with it?

The rolling chassis you show in your info looks to be a Gardner Douglas, you sure it's the right wheelbase n track?

The rolling chassis is a Tvr space frame just to show you what one looks like

I am helping the guys here with the DB5 kit but i have got access to a DB5 if i were to want to make one my self but
i need the funds and also a skillful person to make the mold .

As for parts well my dad works for a company called JD classics who restore a lot of cars
and Astons but i cant use one of theres since if i were to make a mold they have to tell Aston about the mold

Good to see you now have your glasses on mg, mistaking the p1800 but being able to spot a cobra chassis is cause for some concern :))

I'm looking to get a DB4 shell from someone and mount it to a spaceframe and then I'll get my dad to order the glass
From his work and also get the seats done and get it sprayed in silver birch. And add a black pin stripe around the roof to add an ejector seat affect like the skyfall db5

Have you got deep pockets brad? I've heard that an aston, regardless of condition is in that rare group of cars that will still make a profit after restoration.

Rusted out shells can still fetch 5 figures ya know.

Just found this ad for a replica DB9.

    I heed anyone thinking of making 'a few' replica 5's to read the description of the replica DB9 carefully;

You're wasting your time Jeff.... 8-)

Some wont heed the simplest of lessons.

Besides post-injunction the cars are still allowed to be sold (admittedly for a token sum) so all will not be lost (probably)

As to the MEV DBR1 replicas, can't see where you'd put the "pin stripe" for the imitation roof plate.

Only pinstripes involved there are on your suit old bean!

Not sure whether you'd get let in at Goodwood Revival though...

As for all this DB4/5 replica talk, if people are going down that route genuinely (and I doubt it) they should do a removable roof panel like the real SFX car. I can't see that chopping a hole in the roof would effect structural integrity that much in a fibreglass cage lined shell. If it would, then I would wanna corner too hard....

It is possible but not advisable to cut a whole in a fiberglass roof
since there will be no space frame holding the roof it will make it weaker
unless you lay a a metal frame around the hole and fiber glass it in to the roof

In all honesty i would much prefer to have this car since i do 3D modeling and animation
Can any one see what parts are what ? and what car does it look like i would have to use as a base ?

Seriously though guys, there's people here saying they're doing a DB4, DB4GT, blah blah blah....

The choice hinges on what you like most, James Bond or Aston Martin?

For me, I would prefer a DBR1, but if you was going for a bond car from scratch, why would you do the WRONG CAR? I just don't get it.

I know one of our members has a goregous DB6 that's tricked out with bond toys, but I know why he went for the DB6, plus its a REAL aston.

If you're starting with a blank sheet however and can go for any car you like, why go for the wrong model? :s
