Ian Fleming biopic

Just saw where they hired actor Dominic Cooper to play Ian Fleming in BBC biopic. Sounds like it's going to pretty extensive. Not familiar with the actor, but looking forward to seeing this project for sure. This is the recently posted Variety article with further info:

Doesn't really look like Fleming, he was very effette looking, sort of Leslie Howard-ish.

The Domino Effect

Fantastic news. Fleming's story is a great one. His journalistic efforts in communist Russia, his war experiences - and his post-war writing, fame, legal battle and intriguing relationships are all perfect for a proper screen treatment. I'm actually glad that the BSkyB is concentrating on his war because that leaves the rest of his life available for someone else. However, like Nap, Dominic Cooper doesn't strike me as a great fit and in fact it makes me question if the producers will be making this an accurate portrayal of Fleming at all or whether it will be their depiction of the man instead. He's a good actor, but Fleming was frightfully posh and effected and I just can't see Cooper pulling that off convincingly. Personally, I think someone like Eddie Redmayne would be an absolutely perfect young Fleming.

Yes, my reputation as the literary backwoodsman of AJB appartently precedes me, as the filmic Hugo Drax might have said!

Interesting news, but as others have said, not at all sure about the choice of actor. Only time will tell, plus is this actually going to be rebroadcast by the BBC? I didn't get that information from the linked article itself.

Anyway, I wish my luck to the project - I hope all goes well with it. -{

Annabelle Wallis has been cast as Muriel Wright in the Sky Atlantic/BBC America four part biopic on Ian Fleming. Wright is a woman with whom Fleming had a love affair, and who some believe to be the original inspiration for the Bond girl.

Lara Pulver will portray the wife of Ian Fleming in the new biopic to be screened later this year. She will play Ann, a society figure who was Viscountess Rothermere for several years after marrying the propreitor of the Daily Mail, and was later married to Fleming for 12 years, until his death in 1964. The production will also feature Anna Chancellor as Lieutenant Monday in Naval Intelligence, who is thought to have been the model for Moneypenny. And Samuel West will play Admiral John Godfrey, who may have been the inspiration for Bond's boss M. Lesley Manville will play Fleming's mother, Eve, while Rupert Evans will play his brother Peter.
