Bond 24 - which watch will DC sport this time???

As we well know times have changed!!

Long gone are the times where Brosnan wore the same watch for 4 consecutive films (ok his GE watch was a quartz but the same model type) and Daniel Craig has sported 5 watches in 3 films!!!

I was thinking last week that we will prob have a quick turn around for Bond 24 (hopefully) and today I was looking and discussing watches hence it got me thinking...... what will DC sport next????

I read on the rumour mill that it was DC who personally requested the Skyfall Blue AT however Omega wanted to include the PO. The PO was strangely marketed heavily unlike the AT, I mean considering the PO lasts for 12 mins during the film (correct me if im wrong about the PTS running time) and the AT lasted the rest of the film (well over 2 hours) its pretty strange huh.

Regardless, if Bond 24 is out quickly what watch will DC wear??? For some strange reason I cant see the AT making another appearance nor the 42mm Omega PO(soley due to the new watch per film scenario since DC took over). Im guessing no new PO models will be out that quickly either hence it will be an interesting scenario.

Maybe im wrong and contractually Omega will force DC to wear the PO again, they seem to want the PO to be THE Bond watch nowadays however with the money Skyfall generated it would be really cool for DC (a huge watch fan and Rolex fan) to stand up and chuck away product placement and request he wears his own watch of choice (unlikely and wishful thinking huh)

Anyhow had me thinking... of course the new SMP Ceramic could be used (hopefully not)

i hope the AT doesn't make a comeback in Bond 24, i didnt like it at all, looked kinda like a feminine watch. I would be happy if they stuck with the PO worn in the PTS.

I really dont like the new ones in terms of aesthetics (though im sure its a killer watch performance wise)

I too wasnt keen on the AT however seeing it for real its pretty dazzling!

The AT was way to insubstantial. The PO has the right bulk on film. I don't think actors should make wardrobe or watch choices. Leave it to the professionals.

At this point who cares? To me they took something that was cool about Bond and made it purely about marketing. I think Bond does better when he sticks to one watch for the particular actor's tenure. If Bond uses another watch or brand in the movie it should serve a particular purpose, like the Breitling Top Time in Thunderball. Although I wear different watches to suit my mood, Bond should not. If the producers want me to get all jazzed about Bond's watch, they should make it one instead of twenty because Bond is not that guy. The watch to Bond is just a tool, not a fashion statement that he changes with every suit. Just saying!

I can't see them going to Rolex, the tie-in with Omega is very strong.

The chunkier Seamaster-type watches suit DC's tougher Bond better, as they just seem more of an 'outdoors' watch.

Better still if Bond 24 features some underwater action. I loved the way early, Fleming-focused Bonds featured sports, ie. an underwater one, a skiing one... You need a tough, masculine watch to match them.

Well I care as its a Bond film hence interested. Agree it's getting ridiculous i.e. 5 models in 3 films and it will be interesting to see where they go next, surely they can't keep chucking another new model on him (have they even got anything else suitable).

The PO appearing solely in the PTS and lasting 12 mins was pretty crazy.

I'm guessing QoS only kept the same PO (albeit diff size) since there were no new models out at the time.

Has the Omega deal £ ever been revealed??

Well we know Craig doesn't like the modern trend for big watches, hence his own preference for classic and vintage period Rolex Sports/Professional models. It's the reason Omega went to the 42mm PO for QoS and probably the reason why Craig personally wanted to wear the 38.5mm AT. Going back to the SMP, albeit the ceramic version, might be an option, but as we've already said, Omega now seem fixated on the PO in some form, or other, being the official 'Craig' Bond watch.

He wore the Seamaster in CR, from the train scene onwards.

I personally don't think PO has over stayed its welcome. However I do miss the Seamaster and I think Pierce's tenure as Bond had it right with his Seamaster. Even if he wore it for 4 films, Connery wore his Rolex up till Thunderball then it changed (correct me of I'm wrong I think I read somewhere on this blog he had a breitling?) anyways I'm a big fan of Omega's line of watches they have used for Bond. If anything I prefer they stick with the PO and SM like they did in CR. maybe use the SM for more formal occasions and PO for outer ventures like the Madagascar scene in CR and the SM in the train and casino scenes.
    Shocking...

Don't get me wrong I understand the interest somewhat. But it is not who Bond is. However, I think, if the producers want to really sell Bond watches they would do better to have Bond identified with one model. The die hard Bond fan will always know what watches Bond wears, but the passing fan is not like that. So if you want to hook the casual Bond fan, identify Bond with one model. Thus the casual fan might be induced to buy the Bond watch for his next watch purchase. Moreover, I did not buy the Brosnan era Seamaster until his third film. Why? Because I was not converted yet. Having Bond associated with so many different models weakens the connection.

If DC really had the power (and the bad taste...) to bring the AT into SF, here is my theory:

He's a double agent with both Omega and Rolex(secretly) endorsing him - but Rolex pays him higher. :D

That AT is so not-Bond, I was really surprised how that could happen ;)
With the PO though, I can live.

I totally agree with DG: Bond is not a flipper. He chooses well-thought and carefully. And then he stays with the things of his preference.

And that also means, that the literaric Bond would NEVER wear these sharp and flashy TF suits (possibly every 3 hours a different one), he'd keep a lower profile while still being a well-dressed man in a british sense and not in an american TF sense

    Ha - I like this theory! :D

Dont mind the PO just don't like the new 8500 POs, dont look as classy as the 2500 series (though obviously a much improved watch)
