The World Is Not Enough opinion

My thoughts on the final 007 adventure of the 20th century, The World Is Not Enough. I thought the whole plot line with Elektra and Bond worked quite well, even though (yes) Denise Richards and her character were laughable. All in all, however, not a bad entry in the series at all. I remember watching it once and absolutely despising it. The jokes were terrible, the story was difficult to follow, and Richards was not very convincing.
However, I recently watched this film and I adored everything about it. Everything just all of a sudden clicked for me. The score is probably one of the high points of David Arnold's run with Bond, the characterization is magnificent, and Brosnan delivers his best performance as Bond. I really feel for him after killing Elektra and the final battle with Renard is menacing.
TWINE is a great film and it ranks no. 6 on my list! :)

Zorin - good points. I know it wouldn't rank that high for me personally, but the Elektra storyline really is first-rate stuff. Now I'm moving on to watching DAD will analysis coming soon... oh boy :)

    Im with Zorin (above)

Thought it was forgettable in the cinema many years ago however enjoyed it on the blu ray box set. I would say Goldeneye and TWINE is Brosnans finest out of the bunch!!

I think TWINE is quite a low-ranker in the bond cannon.

Although having said that, I prefer it to TND, CR, TB, DAD, and MR.

Elektra King, for me, is the sole reason why it gets a boost. Other than that, there's not really that much I find redeeming about it really.

Barely nudged out by Goldeneye as Brosnan's best Bond film. Certainly his best performance as Bond. Terrific PTS and an outstanding Bond Girl in Sophie Marceau. The weaknesses have been touched upon before, namely Denise Richards and the underuse of Renard. All in all, I'd say TWINE ranks as a very solid entry in the Bond series.

TWINE didn't leave much of an impression on me when I saw it in the cinema. Just seemed like business as usual for 007. However, on repeated DVD viewings it has become one of my favorites. Sleeper hit ?
    My current 10 favorite:

Yes, I think it is a bit of a sleeper. I too didn't care for it much in the cinema but have enjoyed it more on repeated viewings. Consequently it's possibly my favourite Brosnan Bond.

I did not like The World Is Not Enough much at all to begin with then warmed to it over the following years, but now it has gone cool again. The PTS is a real high point, I also enjoy the pipeline action scene, Bond shooting Elektra King is a dramatic moment, and Valentin Zukovsky livens things up. But there's not much else I enjoy. I don't buy how easily Bond falls for Elektra, I regard her as so-so. Renard is under developed and pretty underwhelming, the parahawks action scene makes no sense regarding the plot, and the ending is rather dull.

My fave Brosnan and the one where I thought EON had really got it together, but a false dawn as DAD followed - wtf?

I thought the jokes were great, 'See you back at the lodge' that kind of thing. Q's valedictory speech fantastic. Okay, some naff jokes like the bagpipe flamethrower.

Action could have been better and it suffers on the small screen as it has so many TV stars - Cleese, Dench, Carlyle, Coltrane, all better known mainly for TV roles, esp at the time.

Brozzer looked his best in this one imo, off the back of his Thomas Crown success.

I thought "The World is not Enough" was probably the most flemingesque of all of the Bond movies post-Cubby. I thought Contrane's character was very "Zographos" and the movie was Bond-centric; Bond was allowed to enjoy sex, gamble, and drink. The part with Brosnan-Bond caressing the TV screen was downright bizarre.

I thought that Renard was too emo to be an effective henchman. I had no problem with DR as Christmas Jones, I thought that Fleming would probably have gotten a good laugh out of that.

The problem was it just denigrated into a faux-Goldfinger and I just did not really like the how it fell apart.
