Review: Quantum Perla De Las Duna Tom Ford Harrington (eBay seller)

As some people know I was fortunate to find the real (or closest to SA version) Tom Ford Navy Harrington on eBay a few years back (no leather on collar only around side pockets). Unfortunately it did not fit hence I moved it on, however was gutted since it was new and a snip at $600. In the meantime I pondered about going down the Magnoli route for this jacket but never felt like dropping the penny's for a jacket that I will not see until arrival.

Anyhow for the last year or so you lot have prob seen an Aussie guy on eBay selling his replica under the name Quantum Perla De Las Dunas! He even has a spoof video and the jacket looks very good in his pics and to be fair he uploads quite a lot of these pics. He is pretty honest and admits the jacket is made in China etc and it's about a £100 delivered. His pics and price were a lot more impressive then Magnoli so I thought sod it and gave it a shot.

Here it is on me - Mankinds on and PO at the ready lol (excuse crappy iPhone pics)

When opening the parcel the first thing I noticed was the material is very thin, I know it's a Harrington etc however it's def thinner then the real thing, the Tom Ford Harrington material was prob approx like the Y3 Harrington in terms of thickness going by memory. I also instantly saw horizontal weaves that were fairly striking that I didn't really like (see pic)

Anyhow it's quick to acknowledge the material has been skimped on here, I know it is relatively cheap etc and don't expect it to be Tom Ford however in my opinion this is below your average high street shop quality material at lower price points.

Now when purchasing this jacket the photos looked pretty damn good design wise, the jacket does look very good the details are all there (see pocket pic) and the zipper tag etc. The silky inside lining is very nice and of a high standard with a nice little zipped inside pocket. The fit of the jacket is pretty much as I hoped (I'm still working off the Xmas choc and booze here) however when I'm back in shape I think it will be perfect fitted QoS look so good in this department. As for delivery etc the guy was ultra fast.

Overall I have mixed feeling of this jacket, the design is excellent and it looks good, it's just a pity he didn't go the extra mile and chose better material. Obviously the guy is making money here so I guess this is where he is cutting corners for profit etc however even if he bumped the material quality up and the price a little then it would be worth it.

I would love to drop the money for a Magnoli to do comparisons but I don't feel like dropping £200 when I could be getting something of even or lesser quality back. Magnoli material could be awesome but I see it as a bit of a risk, maybe I should ask for a swatch.

Anyhow thought I would share my views, I think my overall feeling is "good but could be great". I have very mixed feelings, mainly of what could have been etc

I will pass on my constructive thoughts to him as seems a nice guy. He is actually about to release a Barbour replica

    Hey Paul

great post, the pics look great. I wouldn't be so down on it, I think it looks the part and has a great fit. What size is the jacket and what size are you normally wear? Looks like a nice little jacket to scoot around town with, either that or I could fork out the 3000 for the one on ebay (hmmm maybeee not).

Thanks for the detailed explanation! From a distance, it looks great! Buyers will just have to weigh the pros and cons. I'm certainly thinking about it.

It's a XL mate however I would say a small XL. I'm normally a XL but this is very fitted any smaller then prob wouldn't have been any good.

Yeah it's ok for knocking about in

    Cheers!

Yeah I think your paying for a close design of the TF but nowhere near the quality of material.
The cotton has a few bobbles here and there etc. even if upgraded slightly would be good.

It will do for now, might try the Magnoli later on in the year when feeling flush however saving for a watch!!!

I bought one of these jackets also from Evolve in a Medium and agree with welshboy's comments. I love the look of the jacket but the only extra feedback I have are on the sleeve length and zip.

The sleeves were a little short and I had to take it to a tailor to have them adjusted. The seller acknowledged that this was an issue and was fixed in the second batch.

I also find the zip a little sticky. A bit hard to do up and open, maybe again a quality/cost issue. Other than that it was delivered quite quickly. And seller is a fellow Aussie and great to deal with. Got my eye on his lodge jacket.

Welshboy I'm also thinking of a Magnoli but the Solace (Y3) jacket. At £220 I haven't pulled the trigger of fear of the quality.

Yes my zip was also a bit iffy.

If your patient the Y3 does show up from time to time on here and eBay for that price or less.

Agree on the sleeves, I could do with a little longer
