Octopussy Movie Review

Octopussy is the sixth movie starring Roger Moore and by now he is looking old. To be honest he is looking really old and not really able to pass as a super secret agent anymore, which is disappointing really.
The movie starts of with a pretty decent pre-title sequence, when Bond is undercover in Russia, only for his coer to be blown and he is escorted away by armed guards. He quickly escapes with the help of his accomplice and takes to the sky in a micro-jet plae hidden in the horse trailer, avoiding a missile and blowing up the target he was sent to destroy, finishing off with a typical Bond one-liner.
The plot takes a bit of a nose dive as it revolves around an agent dressed as a clown who delivers a fake fabrage egg to the British counsel in, Mosow I believe. This sets Bond out to investigate the egg, which leads him to Kamal Khan in India, where he has one-liners at the ready. The contact for the British Secret Service in India is Vijay, who helps out Bond. The soon iscover the Octopussy woman and the story gets even more ridiculous. I will not give away any spoilers, but the is an outrageous safari with Bond as the bait, and also he does some vine swinging complete with Tarzan call. Other than that, we have a bad guy with a gian killer yo-yo, and a team of killer circus actrobats, and knive throwers.
Other than Bond looking well past his best, this plot is just crazy at times. Having Bond dressed up as a clown really sums this movie up. It is pretty comical at times. To be honest I don't the Moore was taking the role to seriously any more, and by the looks of it not to many ther people were either. The actor was pretty terrible, and at times shocking. The movie is pretty humorous, but not much else. I don't want to sound like I am being to harsh, because there are worse bonds out there, but it isn't to good. Maud Adams is ok, in her role, returning from The Man With The Golden gun, this time playing a different character, but playing it with the same class as the first one, it is just a pitty her character is pretty outrageous.
There are a few decent action scenes, like when they are being chased through the streets of india in what looks like golf buggy's, but this movie in general is pretty forgetable. When you compare it to other Action movies at the time, this is definately forgettable.
I would like to point out that this was released the same year as Never Say Never Again, an unofficial Bond starring Connery and based on Thunderball. Although Octopussy performed slightly better at the box office, I do think that Never Say Never Again was a slightly better movie, even if it was unofficial.
In all fairness at best this is a light hearted action movie, but as far as Bond's go, there is much better. Not Sir Roger's or Bonds finest outing by far.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
As far as NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN vs. OCTOPUSSY, I don't care for either film, but if I had to pick one to watch over the other, I'd probably go with OCTOPUSSY just for the opening scene.
