Question for U.S AJB'ers that bought the Barbour

I should have asked this earlier, but what have you been paying for the jacket as far as duties/taxes?
As most here, I bought mine from the U.K and will be delivered DHL.

Called DHL to ask and they went on a rant asking what the jacket was made of, so I said mostly cotton and other small stuff like horn buttons.

The woman on the other end of the line then said it can go anywhere from 10% to 60% declared value, with a minimum of $50 USD and DHL fees of 4.5% with a minimum of $20 USD.

Can people here chime in please?

Thanks

I paid about $40 in duties last summer when I received mine via DHL. Likewise for my LVC.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Wow, thats an awesome price, which I would have gotten in on the goodstead deal. I canceled mine from nigel clare, no way I was paying 80 Dlls in fees to DHL.

We have to pay an import duty in the US? I preordered mine from cultizm. Anybody here get one and had to pay a duty yet? I always thought that we only had to pay a tax if the item was over $1,000 USD. Ive ordered tons of stuff overseas and never had to pay for anything for customs...

Im aware we pay duties however im not paying 80 bucks on top of paying an avg of 60 quid more than whateveryone else had paid. They are not limited edition and will be available again in fall, at normal prices

I was charged for duty by Fedex a few weeks after getting a watch from a firm (Steinhart) in Germany. Bummer, but I love the watch (wearing it now). Can't complain about the watch plunking down on my desk at work 3.5 days after leaving Augsberg though.[1]

I believe I was NOT charged any duty when I ordered straps from a UK seller (sent Royal Mail Int'l), almost as much cost in fact. I think it's hit or miss, but that could be my ignorance.

[1] Wait. Isn't that where the De Bleauchamp family archives are?

if its sent royal mail then it gets handed over to usps, in which case you dont pay. Third party you do and thru the nose

Well, just found this on the buttom of Cultizm's website

"Tax-free shopping for customers outside of Europe" but I guess this means the VAT right?

ah, nevermind. Their website states that "We are not responsible for any extra customs and/or brokerage fees, or delays in shipping caused by the customs authorities"..

Does anyone know what carrier they use?

From what I could find online, I think they use FedEx. Ouch... I wish they would use the standard German carrier, so that would be handed off to Canada Post for me, and that usually means no tax, or very low tax.

No worries - I bought it on August 20th, about five days after it was ID'd on the boards. I don't think it stayed that price for too long after the film came out...
