If MWTGG had been a Connery Film, do you think it would have been a bit more serious? Or more Campy like DAF?

    Probably more serious - but then look at DAF - confused.com on that one!

    I'd have rather had DAF as a Moore film that TMWTGG as a Connery film but I think TMWTGG wasn't exactly amazing even with Moore in it. That's coming from a Moore fan!

    Yes. the scene with Moore slapping Anders about looked like Connery should have been doing it, but the rest suited Moore fine. That was really the only scene that looked like Moore wasnt comfortable. If Connery had been in the role, especially after his lackluster performance in DAF then that would have been the only scene that looked comfortable. Leaving the rest of the look like Connery stuck in a film that didnt suit him. If you look at the general direction the series was going starting from DAF then you see that the sooner Connery was out then the sooner we could get an actor in who could really look comfortable in a more light hearted take on Bond.

    The writers would have perhaps made the film a little bit more suited to Connery if he was still in the role at this point but overall I think if any of the Bond actors were to be in TMWTGG it suits Moore the best.

    The idea of a more serious TMWTGG is very interesting though! With a more sinister Hitman and less quirky action sequences.. -{

    I would have preferred a more serious version of TMWTGG with Connery as the lead. The idea of Bond facing his "mirror image" so to speak (i.e. agent with a license to kill vs a paid assassin) is well worth exploring, but I think they botched it with TMWTGG.

    If TMWTGG starred Connery, they would have most likely omitted some of the goofy humour (the slide whistle when the car jumps the broken bridge coming to mind).

    The filmmakers would also have had to either get rid of Sheriff J.W. Pepper altogether, or substitute another loud, uncouth American character as Bond's passenger in the car chase, thereby removing any possible LALD connection.

    Both of your suggestions would be vast improvements!

    I imagine the baby elephant thing may have been curbed. It just wouldn't suit Connery's style whereas even after just one film such tomfoolery already seemed de rigueur for Moore. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is certainly lighter than the '60s films (though I see it more as a black comedy) but for me never feels particularly foolish because Connery himself is not a fool.

    As for Moore's slapping of Andrea, I find it a standout scene. Not because I endorse Bond's mistreatment of women but because it causes Moore to make an effort in his performance. It's a moment that stands out, like his killings of Sandor & Locque. I realise I'm in danger of just propagating violence but it's moments like these which serve to give Moore dramatic weight, for me anyway.

    Ironically, I just purchased DAF on Blu Ray yesterday and watched the "Making Of" documentary... I forgot how Roger Moore era-ish the film was... it would have better with Sir Roger as Bond.

    As far as TMWTGG, maybe it would have been better with Lazenby in the role! I think with Connery (DAF era) it would have been no better than what we got.
