Would you agree that the only good Roger Moore films are...

The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy?

Because think about it, in Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun it was the period where Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman did not know what to do with Roger Moore. It essentially took two films and the separation of Harry and Cubby before Mr. Broccoli could get it right with The Spy Who Loved Me. And that's kind of a fact.

In A View to a Kill Roger was too old at that point and tired, and too weak to be James Bond.

    :o
    A FACT?
TMWTGG is an under-rated Moore Classic IMO. Better than the rest.
    How's THAT for a fact? :))

First of all, welcome to ajb007, Sean Connery Fan.

While I enjoy the four films you mention, the question you pose on this forum is rather contentious.

There are many on this forum who dislike Moonraker, and I can understand their feelings. In the case of Octopussy, it seems to be an acquired taste - you either love it or hate it.

As to your view of Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun - a number of people here like both films (I think they are OK), and they would put them in the "good Moore films" category.

Now, A View to a Kill (Ahhh... A View to a Kill :(|) X-( ) - while it should be the general consensus that it is Moore's worst film :v , it does have its supporters; some would actually put it in the "good" category. :s

In summary, if you pose the question, "What are the good Moore Bond films?" on here, I believe you would find that The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only would be the unquestionable ones.

Personally speaking, as I mentioned before, I am a fan of the four films you listed, and I agree with you they are the best Bond films of the Roger Moore era.
"Well, he certainly left with his tails between his legs."

Well, I personally prefer Moonraker to Diamonds Are Forever and I'm the Sean Connery Fan!! I mean, Diamonds, is to Sean Connery, that A View to a Kill can and should be to Sir Roger Moore....And that's a bad movie. A very bad movie.

Now also subtract TSWLM and OP and you've got my list.
Yeah, subtract Moonraker and I may agree with your argument.

I think Octopussy is by far the best Moore film. That Tarzan scene only lasts about 5 seconds out of the whole movie so just press mute when its on. The rest has a good amount of action and suspence. I don't understand where the hate comes from with that movie.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

The reason I dislike Moonraker (Film Version) is because it contains hardly anything from the Novel (aside from the Title and Villain Name)
1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger

At the end of the day Moonraker vs Diamonds are forever is a battle for bottom spot. Both are pretty grim on the whole but definitely have their place in the series. A View To A Kill is one of those movies that I probably shouldnt enjoy as much as I do, but hell, it's entertaining without having to have tonnes of forced humour every second scene!

The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy?

No I wouldn't agree. While FYEO and OP are great, and TSWLM good, MR is lousy. AVTAK and LALD are amazing and the best 2. So no, I don't agree :D
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

    1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

I'd differ and say that the best of Moore (from a Bond characterisation point of view) are:

    FYEO
    TMWTGG
    OP
    LALD
    MR
    TSWLM
    AVTAK

Diamonds are Forever takes the spot for worst official Bond film. It really should work:
    Amazing theme song
    Great soundtrack
    Great locations
    Guy Hamilton returning as director
    and the return of Connery...

BUT it fails on the story and the camp humour. Moonraker in comparison is a master piece of entertainment!

Did I mention Moonraker is my top 5. :D

They are alright. Like I said, you can stagger them over 5 pages, internet doesn't work for long rants, no matter how articulate and right they are. More headings too.

Some interesting stuff, needs tightening. More style over substance is needed. :)

I don't think that it was a long rant, at all. I've edited it a bit. Martin Amis left a comment - nuff said!

Guys, I just now finished watching TMWTGG again (my new Ultimate DVD of it), and it was as great as ever (but it looked prettier). This is SO definitely my favourite Moore Bond. I *LOVE* that Scaramanga dies, and then the movie continues because the mission isn't complete. His twisted stupid fascination with Bond was his weakness, and Bond exploited it. Goodnight in that bikini, the music, the Meddings miniature detonations... I'm at a loss to explain how my fellow Bond fans can't totally love this flick. ?:)

The best of Moore's films for me were "THE SPY WHO LOVED ME", "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY" and "OCTOPUSSY". Three out of seven isn't bad. It's a better ratio than the Connery films for me. Out of Connery's six EON films and one independent, I think the best were "FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE" and "THUNDERBALL".

As for " A VIEW TO A KILL", I rather liked it. I don't love it. I know that in some scenes it was easy to see that Moore was ill with a cold during filming. But for me, it's an improvement on the "GOLDFINGER" plot.
