Not sure why some people are mentioning the oil rig in DAF... I thought that whole sequence was ok?
Well, all the aircraft explosions in that sequence were optically added in, not real miniatures exploding, and that looked kinda TV movie...
I think that as John Brosnan notes, the problem was that the oil rig had to be returned to its owners, hence the careful treatment. But DAF is the worst for me, so I'm biased! Having said that, of course, I've watched it a lot for a new alternative review on The Bondologist Blog - 'A Very Nasty Little Film Indeed - An Alternative Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971)'.

I think with the Moore films, one expects something a bit silly, and a suspension of disbelief is compulsory with all the "ooh"s and "ah"s in his fight scenes actually coming from him and not the audience.

I think with the Moore films, one expects something a bit silly, and a suspension of disbelief is compulsory with all the "ooh"s and "ah"s in his fight scenes actually coming from him and not the audience.
Yes, but we shouldn't have had to have expected that - this was the direction that the filmmakers decided to go in - it doesn't mean to say that it was at all the right direction!

Of course this means that we Bond fans are so eager to like a Bond movie that we will make extensive allowances for gags that really have no place in a proper Bond film.
When people tell me that FYEO is a really serious Bond film I have to just smile... 8-)

Dopey ones, yes. But his "Farewell to arms" one was great!
Connery's Bond tossed them off to amuse himself (and us); Dalton's Bond tossed them off mostly in pure acrid commentary IMO. The one liners that aren't particularly funny are the ones I like best from Bond. Let Arnold have the "Stick around" ones.
The worst one-liner in history has to be Brosnan's "The world is not enough" - but then again, that was countered when even Elektra admitted that it was a foolish sentiment!

I keep reading that Della is raped and killed and can't remember anything in the film indicating this. Bond finds her with a bullethole in her forehead. I guess I should see it again....
BTW, the "whole town knocked out" think in GF ... it's in the book. A bit more grisly and convincing (though implausible; I think Fleming was beginning to struggle with the writing at that point), but pretty much the same. Hundreds of Ft. Knox residents all pretending to be dead from deadly poison in the water supply.
Thanks for mentioning the John Brosnan book ... I had it as a kid (1st ed.), used to read and reread it regularly as it was the only way to relive the movies unless ABC was airing them. I hadn't seen OHMSS, and the botched re-edit of it on TV airing wasn't at all pleasant, so it was sort of a beguiling mystery to me until finally seeing it in a theater in the early 80s. Anyhoo, found a used 2nd ed. for $9 on Amazon and have it on the way. B-)

No bullet hole. And they gave her a "nice honeymoon" (disgusting).
I agree Rosie was one of the worst of the Bond Girls, but why assume that the only purpose of her presence was for Bond to have a "Black conquest"? Is that the reason May Day and Jinx are Black? Or are you basing that on the fact that LALD has a largely Black cast so it makes sense for one of Bond's bed mates to be Black?
I think the whole stables/Sinjin Smythe scenes in AVTAK are a bit cringe worthy but then again it doesn't really ruin the movie, there's other flaws in it as well

Yes, without doubt the very worst actress/charcterisation in a Bond film - and all to give Bond a black conquest! What a dubious distinction for her!
