I'd make the same argument for New York City and the surrounding region: diversity of architecture. I also think that skyscrapers have been underutilized ;)
I myself opted for new York, my reasons being that only a small area ever seems used in films and there is still far more to see, but opinion seems to be its over used in films already, some parts are but the majority not at all.

After what Mission: Impossible 4 did with a skyscraper, I don't think anything can top that. I still don't see what Bond could do uniquely with New York City (or the surrounding region). I live in New York City and I'm from the surrounding region. Imagine a Bond film on Long Island? Well, I could see Bond in the Hamptons.

The parts that are seen in films are most of Manhattan and sections of Brooklyn. What else in New York do you think should be better represented? Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx really don't have anything to offer Bond. There's little diversity of architecture.

Is it possible as your a resident new York is kind if normalised to you? I live near a city called York in the UK and as nice as it is I don't see why it has such huge tourist trade, but I think that's because im just so used to it. I do really think bond needs city scenes and some far off new places in equal measure.

Have you been to the parts of New York City that you don't see in the films? Much of it looks the same. There's no tourist trade in Staten Island. The Bronx has Yankee Stadium, the Zoo and Botanical Gardens for tourists, but no interesting architecture. Queens has the most tourists, but that's only because there are two airports there, and maybe the sports stadiums. York actually has beautiful, varied architecture, and that's not something you'll find outside of Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York.

This is my take on it....

If you want diversity of architecture theres Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Dubai, to be used....

This is what most of New York City looks like:

    Does anyone find this exciting?

I should clarify that there are things in New York City I find very exciting, but those are also the parts always featured in films. Maybe if they could create another World's Fair like there was in 1964 and feature Bond involved in that, it would be cool.

York is a beautiful city, but when you see it all the time you get used to it....it becomes normal, I see the city walls and they're just that, although there are hundreds of people taking photos and walking along them, I know I am lucky to live amongst beautiful countryside and medieval villages but they're just normal to me as I'm sure new York is to you. I've been to your city just once for a long weekend and thought it an amazing place and so familiar, due to the amount of exposure it gets in films, but I still think it is somewhere bond should visit, as Fleming once intended.

MI4 was cool, sure, but hardly the last word on what's possible. I've got a great gag in mind, and guess I'll just use it myself ;)

Just a question of imagination, re: NYC & state. I just disagree that Bond should just stay away ?:)

I for one, would love to see Bond back in NY ( or at least get to see what 009 was
doing there ) ;) as others have said, there are always new ways of filming, to get
    the best from places.

New York and San Francisco are the only major US cities that I think are appropriate for Bond. Miami has been a good locatino for Bond too, but it's not a major city.

Rather then New York, I'd prefer Bond to visit Jorvik (York)

He can take Part in "Last of the Summer Wine*. Would suit Rog nicely.... :))

What's last of the summer wine got to do with York?
I can think of better things in York for bond than Jorvik! And I don't think he'd be bothered with the queues.

This is my first post so, so hey everyone :)

Some real interesting locations and ideas posted, especially as so many locations have now been used...its quite difficult to keep it fresh

For what its worth, i would choose the following.

Bermuda - although it isn't an actual Caribbean island, that general location feels like home for Bond with its spectacular scenery, exotic beaches, sun and glamour. It somehow always fits the genre and i don't believe he has ever been to Bermuda..

Argentina - again another one i don't think has been used in great details. Never been fortunate enough to visit there, but I'm thinking of buenos aires? Involving some storyline of bond searching for a person in hiding, didn't quite a lot after the war etc disappear in Argentina?

Singapore - i love the exotic nature of a far east location.I would actually pick Tokyo or Hong Kong, but not sure if the TMWTGG and YOLT still sticks in the mind...would need a fresh a different twist. I've gone for Singapore as again I'm not sure if its been used yet, but would be an amazing backdrop

Don't think Norway or Sweden have been used either, that may be cool, with bond in the norweigen fjords and mountains

I like the idea of Rome too...classy and retro

    Welcome!

I like you ideas of Bermuda and Argentina. We saw a lot of South America in Moonraker, but Buenos Aires is a lot different from Rio de Janeiro, or Bond could go to the mountains instead of the jungle like he did before.

    Scandinavia sounds cool too!

As for Rome, have you not seen Spectre yet?

I thought Rome was used pretty well, though in the more recent Bond films the locations aren't used as well as they were in Connery's or Moore's day.

It would be nice if they could go back to one or two locations in a Bond film, and spend more time to see and experience them. Nowadays, they use more like four...just long enough for a set-piece. Quantity over quality :#

I agree. But some did many locations well, like LALD and MR. MR was the first Bond film to have a lot of locations, and I think they used all of them very well.

Bond has never been to South Africa, Cape Town would be a fantastic location, or Austarlia, Sydney Opera House or New Zealand used by loads of filmakers after Lord of the Rings.

Domestically he's never been to the Emerald Isle North or South of the border or Wales "the brecon beacons" where the British special forces train.
FRWl, CR, OHMSS, TSWLM, SF, GF, TLD, LTK, TND, FYEO, OP,TWINE, GE, LALD, TB, SPECTRE, DN, YOLT, TMWTGG, QOS, MR, DAF, DAD, AVTAK, NTTD.

It must be weeks or even months since last time I suggested somewhere in Norway as a Bond location :o
This horrible oversight will be fixed now.

This is Atlanterhavsveien (The Atlantic road), a stretch of road in the west ..... obviously.
