A View to a Kill Movie Review

This is Moore's last outing as James Bond, and he is definately looking like an old man now. Which is a shame, because the actual plot is great, if Dalton had took over for this role it could quite easiily have been a five star movie instead of a three star one in my opinion.

The pre-title sequence is quite good, it involves a snow chase which are always fun. Bond is retrieving a micro-chip from dead agnet 003, who is buried in the snow next to a Soviet Union military base. He is soon spotted and thchase commences. The only down-side to this opening is when he begins to snowboard on the bottom of a snow-ski and the Beach Boys play. Was that really necessary?

So the meat of the plot is around industrialist Max Zorin, who is planning on destroying Silicon Valley. we discover Zorin has connections to the KGB, who initially financed him in his venture. Zorin thinks by destroying Silicon Valley he can monopolize the Microchip business.

The plot was pretty relevent for the time, and it was pretty gripping. I enjoyed the movie as a whole, but Roger Moore was no longer capable of playing the role of James Bond. He was to old to be believable, and this is what I struggled with. If Timothy Dalton had replaced him for this movie it would have been an excellent affair, but unfortunately Moore dragged it down.

Christopher Walken was fantastic as Max Zorin, he is a great bad guy, and has a real psychopathic look about him which makes him play the bad guy so well. He gives us a strong performance and is one of the best Bond villians of all time. He looks the part and his part as a Bond villian is isipational.

Grace Jones is equally as good as May Day, the hench-woman for Zorin. She is strong, with almost super-human strength and really looks the part. I think this is by far her best movie role, her and Walken have a great partnership in the movie. Again she is believable in the role and comes over really well on screen. Again one of the best side kicks in any Bond movie.

This also has some great action sequences, such as the Eiffel Tower scene, the fire in the house, and all of the action in the mines. The special effects are to a good standard, and the final battle on the Golden Gate Bridge is good to watch.

Another plus is Duran Duran doing the music. The were popular at the time and make a classic theme song, again one of my favourites. It is really catchy and the music is definately relevent for the time.

Overall this is a great movie let down by an aging lead many who could no longer carry the weight of the role.

Best part of the movie is when he's shooting those guys with rock salts loaded in the gun and he can't figure out why they're not dying LOL.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

yeah, that's one of my favorite parts too. :)

Good review Q-Branch. Although I can't imagine Dalton in the role for this one. I also generally like to avoid "what ifs..." concerning Bond movies. What you see if what you get and Roger Moore delivers his best all-around performance as 007 despite being like 57 years old. Funnily enough, his advancing age bothers me more in FYEO and OP, but not at all in AVTAK. Perhaps because it's his swan-song/end of an era that I find it forgivable.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

I do prefer this AVTAK over FYEO, and I think the story for AVTAK is fantastic, I think Moore lets it down for me, and it is mainly an age thing. I also enjoyed the rock salt scene.
