In his book Catching Bullets-Memoirs of a Bond Fan Mark O'Connell makes a strong case for YOLT featuring Sean's best performance as 007. Personally I don't agree but it's still an interesting view.

Dutchfinger, I agree completely about TSWLM being Roger Moore's Goldfinger equivalent. It's also the type of blockbuster hit that ensured the survival of the 007 series during the turbulent 70's.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

Well...... at least WE get it! :))
Yeah, that garbage about Bond & Helga's scene was just plain stupid. Both actors nailed it.
If I could’ve added anything at all to the movie, it would be a quick shot of Bond covertly looking like he might tear up at Aki's death, and a better FX shot of the plane going down as Helga parachuted to safety. Small stuff.

Also, did you ever notice that when Blofeld shoots Osato, his cat flips out & bolts? They tried to hid it in the editing, but the cat is near the wall on the ground. Never noticed it in the VHS or even the inferiour DVD before. :))
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

I rewatched "YOLT" yesterday before "LALD", and I think I've figured out the problem. It's not that Connery is boring, or not trying. I think the problem is, it's no longer fun for him anymore. Compare Connery's Bond in "Thunderball" to the one in "YOLT" The jokes are there, the performance is decent, he's just not having any fun any more. Watching TB and YOLT Back-to-back would probably really drive home the difference between the two.

I think that's maybe why I don't like it as much as his other efforts. You can tell he's having a good time in TB, he looks like he's not having much fun in YOLT. .

    For me its:

1: The Spy Who Loved Me
    2: You Only Live Twice
    3: Moonraker.

TSWLM is quite simply my favorite Bond film of all time. It is the film I use to measure all the others. This movie has the best villains, the best car, the best action sequences, the hottest Bond girl, and the most epic feel of the entire series.

YOLT is a good Bond movie. And it has Ninjas. Ninjas instantly make any movie better.

Moonraker I feel is one of the weakest Bond films. Even as a kid, I thought it was kinda neat, but pretty weak compared to the masterpiece that was TSWLM. As an adult, I fully realize that they were trying to repeat the success of the epicness of Spy and failed miserably.

They're all in my top 5.

    2. Moonraker (I have a slight obsession with this film)
    4. The Spy Who Loved Me (Only bad thing is the acting from Barbara Bach, more XXX rated movie than Agent XXX)
    5. You Only Live Twice (Great locations, the Volcano and I think Connery is great in this)
    Stop Getting Bond Wrong! !
