Thunderball is one film that I find the second half a bit of a drag in. I enjoy the first half enormously, and while I like the second half as well, I do sometimes start to get a little less excited by the proceedings. I think that it is around the time of the Junkanoo that the enjoyment level drops slightly for me. Still, this is a very good film and for the most part I do still like the second half - just not as much as I like the first.
Diamonds Are Forever is another example of a film whose first half I find more enjoyable, but in this case I think both halves are pretty poor. But I do enjoy elements of it - the Amsterdam section particularly. The fight in the elevator is a highlight. I think a lot of my problems with the second half have to do with Charles Gray's disappointing turn as Blofeld, and the very underwhelming oil rig scene.
A View to a Kill is a film that I have a big soft spot for, but this is mostly due to scenes in the first half that I am particularly fond of. These include the Eiffel Tower sequence and all the stuff at Zorin's chateau. Once things move to San Francisco, I find myself somewhat less entertained (at least until the airship scene at the end, which is excellent.)
Tomorrow Never Dies is a film that has taken time to grow on me, but I do really like it. However, the second half still has sequences that I'm not overly keen on, the main culprit being the climactic shootout on the stealth boat. Too much machine gun and rocket action for me.
Last Die Another Day...I don't think I need to go into too much detail here. The second half is just rubbish!
Comments
Dr No
Goldfinger
The Spy Who Loved Me
Octopussy
Licence To Kill
Spectre
However, the ones with a better second half (which I always prefer) are:
From Russia With Love
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
A View To A Kill
The Living Daylights
Casino Royale
Skyfall
The rest are equal in my eyes.
1. Dalton 2. Moore 3. Connery 4. Lazenby 5. Craig 6. Brosnan
