Good news for everyone waiting for a V8 Vantage in 1:18 - Autoart has shown one at the Nuremberg toy fair. It's not the TLD car as Autoart has no Bond licence anymore but this would be a good base for a repaint or even adding some gadgets.
Biggest difference is the blocked Vantage grille but it already has the BBS wheels that were used on the TLD cars (the Vantage also came with Ronal radial spoke wheels).
Autoart usually makes three colours of each road car, so maybe with a bit of luck they select Cumberland Grey with black interior as one of the three ...
AUTOART MILLENNIUM 70221 ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE (CUMBERLAND GREY) 1985
70222 ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE (SUFFOLK RED) 1985
70223 ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE (CHICHESTER BLUE)
That doesn't look too shabby. I am just wondering why a car from 1985 doesn't have headrests? (And why they show a silver one when silver is not one of the three planned colours.)
Differences to the TLD Vantage are the grille and body-coloured deep front spoiler, no bumper overriders and no sunroof and missing headrests. But maybe Autoart will make the Cumberland Grey one different to the one pictured and close to the film version. They are not stupid and Cumberland Grey was not chosen coincidentally. Autoart had a Bond licence long enough and they know very well that the car will sell better this way.
I have a feeling that the Volante could join the coupé next year as about 90% of the parts could be reused.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for using full size pics and not these crappy clickable thumbnails! -{ -{ -{
And the news about that gorgeous car are super-exciting and AA will make a good success like eith the white Turbo Esprit!

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Stunning model, and you gave quite an accurate description...
Oddly enough, Silver Birch was the #1 colour run of the earlier (6 cyl) DBS models. Unsure about interior colours. That's from AM's own production #s.
I think that the DBS and V8 body style are better in Medium palate colours: Olive, Cumberland Grey, etc.
Never liked solid black, nor white.
Did see some mid '80's Vantages in wild colour schemes, and they look very aggressive compared to the non spoilered cars. Bahama Yellow and Suffolk Red also interesting on the Vantage mods.
Prices of V8s are skyrocketing alongside the 6 cyl DBS models.
Got to drive a DBS V8 in the UK in 08. Glad road was dry! I can only imagine the later cars with much more power. Loved the Weber car, as that sound is unbeatable! Gearbox was really stiff, later dog-leg type. Wouldn't have it any other way!!
Gorgeous model, thanks for sharing pics...
If anyone comes across Lazenby's DBS in a larger than 1/43, I also would love to know.
Cheers,
Tom
No DBS or V8 have ever been done in 1:18, not even non-Bond versions in other colours.
Given the close similarity between the two (basically a new front; all dimensions are identical) it's possible that Autoart will add a DBS in the not too distant future, now that we get the V8 Vantage.
Autoart have a penchant for making versions of the same basic car, thus reducing development costs, but still distinctive enough to keep collectors buying the different versions - examples are the Lotus Esprit (S1 - Turbo - V8) or the Corvette C3 (1969 - 1970 - 1978 - 1982). This approach could bring us the DBS, with the V8 Vantage as the basis to work from, and using parts from the DB5.

Which Vantage repro is the most lovely in your opinions?
The 1:43 coupé from the James Bond Car Collection is a very nice model. Compared with a Minichamps Aston you see why there is a price difference, like a thin chromed window frame on the Minichamps vs. a rather thick silver painted frame on the JBCC. But still, this is a good looking model, especially when displayed in its diorama.
Minichamps made a non-Vantage coupé in Cumberland Grey which is of course much better detailed than the JBCC Vantage. However, the Minichamps V8's all suffer from too small tyres which look more like space-saver spare wheels, and the grey coupé also has this strange "handlebar" in front of the grille that I haven't seen on any real car.
The Western Models 1:43 TLD coupé mentioned above by A_A is also quite nice although you can see that it is an old white-metal model. I thought it was more like 25 years old than 15 but I don't know when exactly this TLD version ML-1 was made. The moulds are from the mid-eighties and the wheels and details look a bit poor when compared to today's models. But it is one of the models that has a certain "charm" which usually means that a model is not really good but you still like it and don't know why.

SMTS makes 1:43 coupé and convertible versions of the TLD Vantage in very small runs of 5 to 10 pieces for British Heritage Models. They have changed their base models faithfully (new photoetched spoke wheels and added sunroof on the coupé, correct flat black rearview mirrors on chrome stalks). These are white-metal models like the Western but much newer and better detailed. They sell for £115 (which is about the same price or less than the Western fetches when one shows up).
The coupé is currently sold out but there is still one Volante available on ebay. However, it is possible that another run of these will be commissioned by BHM. I have both and think they are very nicely done - although on models with this price tag I'd expect an interior mirror and sun visors on the convertible ...
Unless there is a larger plastic kit out there, the largest to date would be the 1:36 Corgi from the Definitive Collection. But this is a toy, not a model car - something is wrong with the proportions of this one while the similar OHMSS DBS looks quite nice.
Which is the coolest looking model if we don't want outboard skis on it?
If you want only Bond cars than the obvious choice will be the SMTS. If you want a Vantage model but not necessarily the TLD car then Spark makes a nice 1:43 Vantage coupé in dark green and the Vantage Volante in red and dark blue.

Maybe the prototype 1:18 was featured in plain metal as they are stiil working on colour tests? That has often been the practice with early models of action figures and some toy lines in the past? I am guessing though.
That link to the auto modell gallery made me sit up for another reason. They have a beautiful model of the one non-Bond non-public road use Aston Marin that makes me sit up every time. The 009 motor racing rally car. Looks like a great replica of it too!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
