Casino Royale vs Skyfall

CR vs SF - Which of these two Heavyweight Giants do you prefer and for what reasons?

Missing out QoS because it is unfair to judge it against CR and SF because it is 40 minutes shorter and generally despised by fans (I don't mind it at all though)

Skyfall wins out for me, although Casino Royale was excellent too. I thought that SF had the best villain of the series and it had a simple plot and action sequences - just like the poster art - back to basics approach and the use of Flemingesque material makes it a real winner for me! One of the best Bond films ever!

Agree with your points on Skyfall. The reasons I'm looking for other peoples opinions is because I find it nearly impossible to separate these two movies, I think they are both exceptional for many different reasons. I watched them both today and loved every minute of them; I think it's fair to say that Skyfall has the better Villain more engaging plot but I don't think any action sequence in it really rivals those of CR (just my opinion)

I prefer CR to SF because it deals with Bond first becoming a double-0...its a better balanced film too...enough of a split between story and action...

I prefer QoS to SF as well...but we are talking very fine margins between all three films...

I'd give the slight edge to CR, for reasons discussed under the favorite of Daniel Craig's Bond thread.

For me it would havt to be CR, I think the story holds up
    a little better than Skyfall.

I have Casino Royale at #1 on my list and Skyfall at #3 so I love both of these movies.

I think Casino Royale has everything you could possibly want in a movie. Its got the perfect amount of action, suspence and plot twists that leave you at the edge of your seat through out the entire movie. Even the poker game is downright incredible with how it was done. You would think a scene like that would be a snooze fest but they made it so good.

And then as soon as you've had enough of the poker game, Vesper gets kidnapped and the entire movie takes a huge 180 degree turn to non stop action. I love the whole movie from start to finish.

I teach 3 act structure as part of my filmmaking lessons.
Even the most basic narrative has 3 seperate acts.
    Essentially:
Act 1: intro characters, what's the problem needed to overcome
Act 2: working on solving the problem
    Act 3: climax

I love Casino Royale, Skyfall is a close second. I've been listening to Sam Mendes audio commentary today. The man is a genius!

I agree - Casino Royale first, with Skyfall not far behind. I think the story works better in Casino Royale and I give a slight edge to the action scenes in CR as well.

  • To put it in extreme layman's terms, Casino Royale (2006) is the tits and Skyfall (2012) is the nipples on the tits, in my not so humble opinion.
