Was discussing with a fiend, what our personal number 1, bond movie is?

It doesn't have to be the best produced, scripted, casted etc etc. Its just the one that that will always be closest to your heart for any reason.

Mine is A View To A Kill. I remember being about 13- the late 80's- & watching it with my Dad. I fell in love with Bond instantly & went to great lengths to read what books i could & watch as many films I could. I remember it being repeated on T.V & I taped it on VHS, it took about 12 months for the tape to decay. :)) Needless to say it was the first movie I purchased on VHS & DVD & when I bought my blu ray box set, it was he first I watched.

Oh & I believe Max Zorin is the finest Bond villain ever.

Anyway, what's yours & why?
Tell me, does the toppling of American missiles really compensate for having no hands?

"Licence to Kill". T Dalts rocks it, Davi rocks it, and they both re-read "Casino Royale" to get into character. It definitely has it's share of faults, but I love the way Dalton plays the emotional parallel of his losing Tracy to Leiter losing Della, and the need for revenge after it. Davi is not as vivid a villain as others, but he definitely scores the biggest emotional hit to Bond, second only to Blofeld, and the item used to kill him is just icing on the cake.

The Living Daylights for me, the best of literary Bond with some of the fun leftover from the old days plus a killer Barry score on top.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

It's my #2. Sometimes it's even my number one. I absolutely love the Aston Martin Vantage. I got a good chuckle out of a recent "Archer" episode. Lana and Cyril went to get Archer from a former agent and Lana was driving the Vantage, same gunmetal gray, the whole bit.

    thirdyboy,

Yay, another View to a Kill fan! Welcome to the club. :)

Your story of taping View to a Kill on VHS reminds me of Mark O'Connell's book - Catching Bullets Memoirs of a Bond Fan. I bet you would really enjoy reading it.

Goldfinger - the quintessential Bond film in which all of the elements that define the series fall into place. A witty PTS, Connery giving his most assured, confident performance, a formidable villain, an appropriately menacing henchman, gorgeous Bond Girls, and just the right touch of humor. Tops the list for me.

From Russia With Love. It's perfection in every sense of the word. If I were to list everything I like about the film, I'd be here forever. Instead, I'll list the things I don't like about it.

On second thoughts, that's proving to be a futile exercise as well, because I can't think of anything I don't like about the film. Perhaps it could have been a closer adaptation of the Fleming novel instead of going off on a slight tangent.

From Russia With Love is going to remain forever as my favourite Bond film. It's not just my favourite Bond film, it's my favourite film, across all genres and all eras. If someone were to ask me what my favourite film is, my answer would be the same: From Russia With Love. I don't think anything will ever knock it off its perch as my number 1. This film gets a 9.95 out of 10 from me.

    For me, The Spy Who Loved Me combines all the classic Bond elements better than any of the others. Great action, sets, locations, score, visuals, and humour. Iconic PTS, the Lotus Esprit, Atlantis, Liparus, Jaws, Naomi, etc, etc. Roger Moore really hits his stride. Hugely engaging and entertaining. -{

Although TSWLM is not my favorite 007 film, it is #3 for me (OHMSS is #1), I think you make a great point. I have always said that if an alien ever asked me what this "James Bond thing" is i'd tell it to watch TSWLM.

Put another vote in for Licence To Kill. great Bond, great Villain, great Henchmen, great Bond girls, great Locations, great Theme Tune/Closing Tune and a great storyline.

This is very closely followed by FRWL and CR!

But what about that dull PTS? Oh wait, it was actually one of the best...
What about Dalton's cardboard acting? Oh, I think I'm thinking of Lazenby... Dalton was rather wonderful in the role...
Well what about that crap music score? Barry should have done it...wait... he DID do it... yeah, and it was amazing now that I remember...

Love Timothy Dalton's intro in The Living Daylights, my favourite intro of the Bond actors. And yes I know Sean Connery's in Dr No is "iconic". Certainly no cardboard acting from Dalton, nor a crap music score from John Barry, he went out in style. Not the best Bond film but a very good one, IMO.

Goldfinger, though to recreate my first viewing I'd have to watch it on a small black and white telly!

    Then Moonraker, childhoold memories.

And neither of the above would be so good without the likes of Dr No and FRWL to back it up, or for YOLT to set it in context...

But really, it all comes down to a) special memories of a particular showing and b) just how much I enjoy watching a movie, irrespective of its actual 'quality'. So DAF ranks highly.

    I did like AVTAK, though.

Thunderball for me: Connery on top form, Largo a great villain, The two most attractive women in the series - Domino and Fiona - fantastic locations and scenery, witty dialogue ("I think he got the point"), a sprawling plot, magnificent underwater battle and a jet pack. Classic!

From Russia With Love, hands down. With TLD, GoldenEye, TSWLM and Thunderball rounding out my top 5.

First saw FRWL when I was 5. Never will forget watching Klebb die. Didn't have a clue what the movie was at the time, but I had to find out. Bond became an obsession with me at that point
