MGM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Barber has been speaking about Bond 24. "We are very excited about the franchise, we look forward to announcing a director soon. We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next three years it will be released."

This is a good sign, although I would be happier if their was more concrete news to report such as writer John Logan has begun working on a script or the Producers are looking at candidates for the director's chair.
3 years??? I hope they make it in 2. I thought the only reason it took so long before was because MGM was having financial problems.
2016 would be another 4 years after Skyfall.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me
I hope it's done sooner as well. Craig is 45 now, so he could be 46/47 when filming Bond 24. That means if he's contracted for another, and Bond 25 takes 3/4 years, he's at risk of having a Moore/AVTAK moment and looking too old for the job. Obviously that might not happen he might still look good enough to be Bond but it's a risk.
That doesn't hide from the fact that the wheels are slowly turning in the making of Bond 24 isn't very exciting

I'd say: Strike while the iron is hot. Skyfall was a huge succes so why not grab the chance to capitalize on that? Last year the entire world was in a Bond mania not unlike it was during the '60's, it would be foolish to wait too long with Bond 24 IMHO. It is not like Craig other movies have been a huge succes so he might as well start filming the next 007 movie asap.
That was the plan with Quantum of Solace. I liked the end result of Skyfall better. And I'd rather we only got one more good Craig film than two hurried entries.

I hope they take a more sensible view. When they have a great plot, great script, great director etc - then they should make the film, whether it takes 1-2 or 2-3 years.
Who now owns the rights to Blofeld and SPECTRE? I thought that after the last court case, McClory's rights to the characters may have passed back to EON? Or maybe the Fleming Estate?
That would determine whether the characters can be used again or not.

Big scoop on yahoo news yesterday, Bond film might be in the next 3 years! Wow!
But if Logan has had his drafts accepted, surely it's a case of let's get going.
I'm not convinced that taking an extra year or two results in a better movie.
It doesn't. A great script can be written in weeks, whereas a poor script can be rewritten constantly and still never be any good.
George Lucas had years planning the Star Wars prequels and they were crap. The same with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - script after script and still a crap film. And more recently, Prometheus, a complete pile of facehugger turds despite the long period of development.
Perhaps not. But I am convinced that rushing too much increases the likelihood that the end product will suffer. Of course there are always exceptions to generalities such as this, so we'll have to wait and see.
Things would have been alot faster if Sam Mendes chose to stay. They've got the Bond series at its highest peak since Goldfinger right now. The smart move would be to get another one out as soon as possible.
But w/e Skyfall is so good that I won't get sick of it for awhile I guess.

Don't buy too hard into the 2016 thing. The studio guy said "within three years." He said it in March of 21013, so all the half-wit bloggers do some lazy math and say "2013 + 3 = 2016." If Bond 24 comes out in March of 2016, I'll eat my shoe. Aside from all the other holes in that theory, Mendes turned down Bond 24 because “I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond." If they were going to wait until 2016, Mendes would've likely considered it.
The Bond 24 writer, who had a hand in crafting the successful "Skyfall" has given a quick teaser to the Financial Times whilst discussing his new Dench- and Whishaw-starring play "Peter and Alice".
John Logan says that he's keen to keep picking at some of the threads he unraveled in "Skyfall", and sees his inspiration as flowing from Fleming Bond's vulnerability:
"Fleming’s courage in showing Bond’s fear and vulnerability and depression was really interesting and something that a modern audience can accept."
"I think Skyfall demonstrated that they want more layers to that character. And those are the layers that Fleming wrote."
Any comments?

Well I, for one, welcome this news - I like to get behind James Bond's psyche as it was related in the original Bond novels. This is a very good direction for the series to go in after Skyfall.

I've heared the same thing actually. I was really hoping for a 2014 release. It makes sense for it to come out in 2014 a lot more than 2016 as well...
