Skyfall Macallan

Anybody ID exactly what year/kind of Macallan Bond drinks at the Turkish bar and then at M's house?

Check out the Bond Lifestyle website. I believe the creator is a member here and the following information is his.

I have had the odd bottle of the Macallan and have seen Skyfall several times. I have no reason to doubt his information.

Enjoying Death bar scene - Bond grabs a bottle of Fine Oak 10 year old.
With M in her flat - Sherry Oak 12 or 18 year old, undetermined age.
With Silva during the dualing pistol scene - 1962 Fine and Rare vintage, 50 year old.

Worth buying? Because for a 10 YO whisky it's quite pricey, I suppose it's a lot better than any blended whisky in this price range, like the Johnnie Walker Gold Label, which surprisingly is 18 year old, but well, it's blended...

I bought the 12 recently... loved it... Granted it is expensive (for someone used to drinking $40 bottles of bourbon). But it is worth it in the end...

That's not what I meant... It's pricey for a 10 YO, as I said, in this price range usually are 12 YO+ whisky bottles. :) I will try I guess, found at least two stores selling The Macallan in Krakow. Will see.

There is a significant difference between blended and single malt. I would personally rate 10yr Macallan higher than even the JW blue label, but for the price you can get better single malts. It all depends on your taste; sherry-like (Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Glendronach, Bruichiladdich if you go up a notch) or peaty (Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Talisker, Lagavulin, Highland park). For a in-between single malt like Macallan, I had better experience with something like Speyburn 10yr for about half the price.

The blended whisky can be done right; The Haig & Haig Dimple (Pinch in the novels) 15 yo blended is a fabulous whisky (for a blend that is). Very different from Johnnie Walker anything.

It is a funny thing when you compare whisky and cognac, with whisky being blended is always something of a stigma, but no one thinks that only single estate cognac is the only way to go in similar manner.

And yes, I feel also that the Macallan is a bit pricey for a 10yo sm. Mr Harpen has some valid points.

    Cheers!

The bartender who is good friends with my mom and dad gave me the empty bottle of Macallan's as a B-day gift. Even though the 15 isnt in Skyfall it looks just like the 10 year old Bond drinks in Turkey and for a whiskey that usually sells for $105 i cant complain.

So what is the reality behind the 50 year old Macallan? This is the sort of bottle primarily sold at auction, is that correct? I'm curious if any bars actually sell this by the glass.

High-end bars known for their Scotch collection often have it...but you have to find a high-end bar known for its Scotch collection first! ;)

i went to Fetiye for a holiday (before Bond ) and stayed in a fairly good hotel
and you couldnt get decent spirits there, its all local Turkish brewed stuff
so i would doubt a crappy beach hut would stock a 10 year old scotch
its all EFES beer, but its only a film after all
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

I personally enjoy Macallan. I usually have two bottles at home, the 10 Year Fine Oak and either 12 or 18 Year Sherry Oak. There are a lot of places here in Austin, TX that serve Macallan but I have yet to find the 50 year. I'm planning on checking stores soon.
