Hot Enough for June and The Destructors comes to mind, as does the spoof version of Casino Royale.

Dean Martin's Matt Helm films failed miserably IMO.

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, which was made back in the '80s and even directed by Guy Hamilton. It was a blatant and open attempt to knock Bond off his pedestal, but it was just embarrassing. Joel Gray even puts on heavy "Chinese" makeup, adding to the embarrassment factor.

Wasn't there a series of "Remo" books at the time? Never read one, they looked dreadful.

Yep: the series is known as "The Destroyer." Never read one, so I can't comment on their dreadfulness.
