Title speaks for itself really. Just name your 10 favourite actors and 10 least favourite actors.

A lot of my list is down to personal taste/feelings and love of the films too. So, my opinion is:

Favourites (Number 1 being my very favourite):
1 - Harrison Ford
2 - Christopher Lee
3 - Christopher Walken
4 - Christopher Lloyd (What is it with Christophers?)
5 - Jack Nicholson
6 - Sean Connery (Not my number 1 bond, but I think out of all the bonds he is the best all-round actor)
7 - Bill Murray
8 - Ewan McGregor
9 - Johnny Depp
10 - Nicholas Cage (Ok, not a great actor but I like lots of his films)

Least Favourite (Number 1 being my least favourite):
1 - Vin Diesel (I don't know how anyone could be any worse than him)
2 - Sylvester Stallone
3 - Arnold Schwarzenegger
4 - Hayden Christiensen
5 - Keanu Reeves
6 - Daniel Radcliffe
7 - Mark Hamill
8 - Owen Wilson
9 - Richard Chamberlain
10 - Stephen Baldwin

I have not included 'actors' in the form of famous musicians etc attempting to act - I just don't count them
1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

Ugh. I never understand people putting Keanu Reeves on that list. The most common complaint I can get out of people is his voice not changing tone enough. Thing is, lots of people actually talk like that, including Keanu Reeves outside of films. He looks like an emotional Keanu Reeves when he needs to, but people don't seem to be able to remember the actual traits of him as a person. I really don't think it was a fluke that he was one of the leading men of the 90s and his presence on screen was worth it for The Matrix alone, a very well-received and successful film.

I wouldn't have wanted Neo any other way. The fact that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith were widely considered close second picks for Neo and Trinity sounds awful to most people who know the films.

Can you guys explain to me why you actually think he's one of the worst? Versus just disliking his expression?

Maybe I'm into it because I'm a pretty deadpan, monotone, fairly unexpressive guy who also loves Dr. Manhattan in Zack Snyder's Watchmen, but I just don't really get how Keanu Reeves could act any other way when you consider his voice and actual expressions down to his traits. He is a certain type of person and he will still be that type of person at his best, which is why he gets most notably cast for certain character types. Sometimes, you want that distant, cold, narrow, and almost emotionlessly observing man. He can burst and get upset or happy, but it looks like that type of person when he does it. I wish people weren't ignorant of the variety of humans and their range of expressions, or natural limits thereof.

You're delusional if you think lack of talent is why Keanu Reeves doesn't look and sound like Jack Nicholson in films.

Now Nicholas Cage... He is super hit or miss and it is totally his fault. He has had a handful of good roles, but man, he has some of the most idiotic deliveries because he goes so strangely bizarre or in the wrong direction in both choosing roles and playing humans.

These lists are depressing. Maybe this thread should be renamed 10 Favorite and 10 Least Favorite Actors. Most of these don't even seem like objective attempts looking at mainstream cinema.

I should stop looking at this thread. I think I'm taking it personally. :))

Actually, I loved Man On Fire, which I think is his only decent performance, and American Gangster and Out Of Time are also good.

But he does the same two things in almost every film. Either a forced, scarcely believable calm or OTT shouting and hollering.
If you ever watch WWE, you might notice the cringe-inducing John Cena is a virtual clone of Denzel.

I couldn't disagree more. Denzel's portrayal of Malcolm X was nothing like his Easy Rawlins in The Devil in the Blue Dress. And his Academy Award winning turn in Training Day was signicantly different from what he did as the attorney in Phuladelphia. And even if you think there are similarities that run through Washington's performances, that alone certainly shouldn't put him in the "Worst Actor" category. Let's look at some of the actors on your Best Actor list: Mark Strong, Mel Gibson, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken. Are you saying that they don't also have a few trciks that they carry with them from film to film? Pacino, whom I love as an actor, has an acting style that also be described as showing "[e]ither a forced, scarely believable calm or OTT shouting and hollering." He's still a great actor, as is Denzel Washington, in my opinion.

What is the problem with some of you guys? This is purely subjective and a bit of fun.

I think Tom Cruise is a dreadful actor. One dimensional and boring, others think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. His box office receipts show I'm in the minority, but who cares?
  • Mr BeechMr Beech Florida, USAPosts: 1,749MI6 Agent
This is why I have a problem with the thread title, though. It isn't 10 Best and 10 Worst. It's 10 Favorite and 10 Least Favorite. I can handle making a list for either, but to suggest some of these proven actors are the worst is pretty ignorant to me.

Either give it another shot with an objective list, or let's clarify that just about none of these are genuinely giving an indication on the standing of actors in various films throughout cinema over time.

If you seriously think Denzel Washington or Tom Cruise could actually be on a list of 10 Worst Actors, you should be thankful you don't have to make the list for a studio employer.

I have trouble imagining that Tom Cruise is anywhere near the 10 Worst Actors list in an objective consideration, which is what the thread title implies.

Not only is he popular at the box office (being the only leading man I know of to have over 20 $200 million successes under his belt), but he has also helmed a number of critically acclaimed films and roles. I think some of the most lovable film quotes around have had something to do with the charm of Tom Cruise and his delivery, and they aren't all delivered in the same dimension, to say the least.

I don't think he's one dimensional, because there are really obvious differences between Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, and Vanilla Sky in my opinion.

You have pinpointed my problem with this thread as well. Just because one doesn't like a particular actor does not mean that individual can't act. I understand the subjective nature of how much someone enjoys an actor's work, but to seriously contend that some of the individuals named on some of these lists are among the 10 Worst Actors out there just seems silly to me.
