TSWLM->FYEO End-titles film sequence gotcha

G'Day all,
New to the forum - been lurking here a while as I was referred here a while ago by a local who I was discussing this topic with via email last night.
Something I never knew about and, though there must be a thread on this, I didn't really search for it preferring to make this my first post on ajb.
My wife and I have been watching the films in order and, although of course I have "the list", I haven't had to try too hard to select and transfer the correct, next film over my local network to the TiVo for the next session, whatever it may be for many obvious reasons.
However, last night I pulled FYEO across after uncritically noting that, at the end of TSWLM the end-titles announce FYEO as the film in which 007 will return.
It was only by chance that I mentioned this to my friend: We had finished TSWLM (yes, with kids sometimes it is taking us time to "finish" whole films that we set out to watch lol) and were about to watch FYEO. He asked me what I'd thought of Moonraker - or some such reference which immediately caused me to double-take because, of course I knew Moonraker was imminent in the sequence but had not thought twice about the 'next film' at the conclusion of TSWLM. I actually hurridly consulted the "list" and then went straight back to the film titles to confirm I was not mad.
Apparently, I was promptly informed, this is not unprecedented. Moonraker was bumped in to compete with the Star Wars fever and no doubt 2001 popularity etc of the time... Anyway seemed like something to start with here as my first post.
Anyone relate to this or by the time you were on here and watching the films in order had them memorized already and not to be thrown off the scent by anything as tricky as a misnomer in the official titles! \

I became a Bond fan before I watched any of the films.
As a child a friend of mine was a huge Bond fan, through him I memorized roughly the order of the Bond's (though the YOLT, OHMSS, DAF skip confused me and I got muddled through the 12 year Moore era) also I didn't really watch the credits until when I became super obsessed like now.
I wish, personally, that Moonraker was done after FRWL, keeping in the same tone or as a long lost Dalton movie.

You are indeed correct, Moonraker took over to make the most of the sci-fi phenomenon of the times! It's a nice little Bond fact that every fan knows and can pull out the bag whenever watching TSWLM with a friend or relative who doesn't know the order of the films! The kind of thing my friends tell me are 'sad' that I know, when really to us Bond fans it's just common knowledge! Now that you know you can do the same :007)
Goldfinger eh? Right. Is that the only other instance? Interesting that TB with all its background context and history was the one that was implicated in this.
So did they decide to make a different movie all of a sudden with Moonraker or was it somehow bumped up in an already in progress production schedule? Must have thrown a few people at the time and been a part of the whole story.
Certainly when I was a kid and these were coming out I was not old enough to be really following them - they "adult" movies we got to see when they came out on video or TV and going round to a friend's place to see the Connery films seemed very grown up LOL

Though I understand the reason for not mentioning the name of the next movie, I always thought that it was a tremendous tease . It's just like someone gives you the feeling, that he exactly knows what he's doing and that he's absolutely confident in his franchise.
And it gave an additional kick to know the title of the next one.
With the reboot, they should start again mentioning the next title but I know, that it won't happen.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
This approach, obviously a conscious marketing exercise to appeal to the seasoned Bond fan, the newcomer and anyone aware of the books, may be unique to the 007 franchise?
Unlike movies today that we almost groan to think are "bound to become a serial franchise that gets steadily worse". Think Police Academy LOL for a particularly appalling example (out of genre I know). Or films that we look forward to "in the hope that there is a sequel. My first experience of the possibility of such anticipation occurred when the "T2" posters suddenly appeared around the place. Such a build up and such a good sequel (IMHO - and anyway at least sufficient to demonstrate my point). Alien perhaps worked well in this way but it is hard to imagine "Ripley will be back in..." even though somehow we always knew she would (could) be
Somehow with 007 it works naturally - he is, after-all, a working man with a steady job
I really like that they did that in the titles and find it funny to learn of these idiosyncrasies, but also a bit disappointed that they dropped it however understandable.

No, alas, they didn't.
Also, it's so many years to the next one, they don't even know what it's going to be.
Thirdly, maybe it was done in the 60s to promote the Fleming novels, generate a bit of pre-publicity of sorts.
Kevin McClory was aiming to make Thunderball a rival Bond and had cast Laurence Harvey I believe, and an actress to play Domino, but the EON producers decided it would water down their brand and distract folk, so they joined forces for that one. Not sure how much of McClory's script had been done; even The Battle for Bond book overlooks that I think.
OHMSS was said to be too similar to TB, a sort of 'TB on skis' or so I read. I can see their point, it's Bond doing a lot of detective work around a health centre (Shrublands or Piz Gloria), both are a bit stuffy and claustrophobic at times.
