Things I do / do NOT want in Bond 24

1. I do not want to see Bond with an earpiece/microphone talking to HQ.

2. I do not want to see anything having to do with construction sites, construction equipment, or chase scene through construction sites - enough already!

3. I do not want to see CSI type touchpad monitors.

4. I do want any psychobabble or leftwing dribble - enough of this crap!

5. I want to see a theme song pair with the soundtrack.

6. I want to see Bond enjoy smoking, gambling, drinking hard spirits, and fornicating (with at least one woman) like a man.

7. I want to see really good looking women who do not look bored or boring and killed off 5 minutes they show up on screen.

He is not going to be seen smoking. Those days are gone and IMO for the better.
I agree that a theme song punctuated into the soundtrack is important. QoS and TND really annoy me on that one.

As I have said myself on other threads, I really hope we get back to the "formula" of a briefing in Ms office, byplay with Monneypenny and then Bond out on a mission for Queen and country. All this out on his own, out for revenge, making it personal has been done to death....LTK, QOS etc etc.

Finally, I would love to see DC on skis!

Yessir! Couldn't agree more! I,too, have missed the briefings, MP byplay, and quips with Q. Also, I don't want to see the quick cut editing so popular in action movies today. Gives me a headache and ruined QOS.

As for stuff I do wanna see: A true world threat. One post on AJB (couldn't find it) suggested stolen nukes (Or more generic explosives) implanted in the artesian wells of the Canary Islands setting off landslides which would in turn cause a tsunami wiping out the East Coast of the US. That would be positively inspired! As well as being pathologically evil, it is something well within the reach of a SPECTRE/QUANTUM type org. Realistic, too. The Canary Island formations are an actual geological threat which causes fear among scientists today. So you'd have a realistic world threat, terrorists, a possible revenge thing if it were Blofeld's daughter running Quantum(like in the Gardner novel 'Never Send Flowers'. Blofeld's daughter trying to resurrect Spectre). I have no doubt we could find a way to get DC on skis in the Alps or the Rockies, wherever Quantum's base du jour is. It could be brilliant! B-)

It was me who suggested that plot, so thank you :D
But I don't think it would be a Quantum operation. An explotion like that would wipe out the eastern seaboard of north and south America and the western seaboard of Africa and Europe. Quantum is a crimminal organisation that wants to make money. There is no money to make on this exept by blackmail. But for a blackmail to work the governments of these countries would have to know of the threath beforehand and belive it's a cridible threath. How can Quantum supply this information and not devulge exactly what will happen? There are no other ways to hit the Atlantic nations at once short of nuclear attack. quantum would have to tell the world what they are going to do before doing it for this blacmail to work, and then it would be posible to stop it.

A much better motivation would be someone who comes from an area that would not be hit (Asia, Russia or the eastern Mediteranian) who wants to destroy the Atlantic nations (NATO?). The most likely motive would be revenge or a crazy dictator far away from the target area. I don't see how Blofeld's daughter would want to destroy much of the world just to avenge her father.

Only if he can Ski. Remember the terrible Pierce on obvious training skis with no long shots close enough to identify him. I think it's hard to fake skiing. Although with the length of time we have and Daniel's keeping it real ethic I guess he would learn.

TND - the title song David Arnold originally wrote - "Surrender" performed bu KD Lang -is IMO a fantastic song and it does match the score throughout the film. I'm not sure why it was swapped for the lesser song used although Sheryl Crow does a great job with what she was given.

Re Bond 24, I have to agree with most of this, but let's keep him human and not some one-dimensional Sid the Sexist, eh?

As for the Canary Island plot....

You could Blackmail the countries to be effected, but not give the details. Send them pics of the bombs to know you're serious, but not giving their location or what the plan is. There would have to be more hunt and chase.

No, you couldn't. Or you could, but most countries would say: "You have lots of explosives somewhere, but that could only effect one city. Why should everyone pay? Why should WE pay? Probably the bomb is somewhere else" A lot of explosives in any other location would "just" be an explotion. Only in that vulcano would the explotion affect the whole Atlantic area.

But you would need to aquire the bomb, get a crew, move the bomb to the Canary islands and set it off. Lots of hunts and chases could happen. I think the vulcano could produce the tidal wave from an atomic explotion, a very large conventional bomb or possibly by pouring different chemicals by pipes into the vulcano that together produce a very large explotion.

    01. Reduce M's role. Judi had way too much screentime in the earlier ones
    02. Bond should smoke. :)
03 Recast Q. The latest guy was too young and annoying.
04 The gunbarrel in the beginning - The thing I'd like the most.
    05. A better theme song that can actually match songs like "Goldfinger" or "The Living Daylights" or "Thunderball".
06 A good and MELODIC score!!! For heavens sake. What went wrong with the scores on Casino Royale and Skyfall? I can't hum a single track... What happened to the melodic chase themes? Music wise the Craig movies have been a disgrace to all the things John barry stood for.
    07. No more revenge. Bond on a mission - very simple.
    08. Give Bond back his brain - Craig has been a very simple minded Bond. In the older Bond movies Bond knew a lot of things. It was like the movies had a theme, whether it was Tarrot Cards, Classical Music, Fishing, Gold smuggling, Carl Farbergé Eggs, microchops - you name it and Bond was just there, bringing knowledge to the subject. Casino Royale was like that with the whole Poker theme. QOS and especially Skyfall lack the brainy Bond.
    09. NO MORE ASTON MARTIN!!! PLZZZ... And especially not the DB5 - leave it in the sixties. No matter how many DB5's you put in the next Bond movie, Craigs Bond movies will never be superior to Goldfinger. just let it be.
    10. Give Bond some better girls... Come on!!! The latest two installments girl wise were embarrassing.
    11. Catch up with the old storyline - Tracy's death, Felix Leiter injured by the shark and all that. What was wrong with all that...?

I think now is the time to do some really good Bond movies where they connect what was good about the old movies (Bond has a brain, Gunbarrel in the beginning, melodic scores and desent theme songs, no references to classic stuff, the relevant girls) with what is good about the new ones (The darkness, the surprises, possible torture scenes, evil villains, somewhat realistic plots, Ian Fleming feel) :)

It's really not that difficult. Howcome Hollywood fail so much nowadays...? Look at "Prometheus" how hard can it be to make an Alien-prequel...? :)

I actually wrote a story and tried to make some music that combined all the elements I liked about both Barry and Arnold. My working title is Risico and of course this music is not perfect and it's a hobby project but i'd just like to share it on this respectable site ;)

I also want to bring back the mission assignments with Bond back in M's office.

Thats pretty much it though. Just keep the story interesting with awesome action sequences and the usual funny one liners and it'll be a good movie.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

How dare you say that about the db5, Niller. I loved seeing the car back in skyfall, and i was sad when it died. Aston martin and bond are perfect together, and always will be. Although i would like him to have his cars modified by Q Branch, like in the classic bonds. :)
I do want to see: More gadgets and cars, and however much i enjoyed skyfall, i have to admit it was lacking in the gadget department.
I dont want to see: So much of MI6, i think bond shouod spend the first 10 min of the film there and then go off to some foreign land, and stay there for the rest of the film. I also hope Bond 24 won't have a dreadful theme, like quantum of solace. Last but not least i dont want to see bond depressed. We have had enough of that, i do not want to see bond crying over M, i just hope bond 24 will give the storyline a fresh start. Thats all folks. :)
    1, skyfall
    2, casino royale
    3, goldfinger

    1. I do not want a Quantum / SPECTRE plot line. (Would not necessarily be disappointed if it was to happen though so long as it was done well)
    2. I want a larger than life villain.
    3. I want memorable henchman.
    4. I want Bond in a Lotus.
    5. I want there to be a car chase that lasts for a decent amount of time and involves gadgets built into Bonds car.
    6. I want a larger than life finale.
    7. I want a Bond girl that accompanies Bond through the mission a la Pam Bouvier / Wai Lin.
    8. I want to see Craig in an underwater scene involving scuba gear.
    9. I do not want Bond flying a plane or falling out of a plane.
    10. I WANT TO SEE DANIEL CRAIG TOSSING A HAT ONTO THE COAT STAND.
    11. I do not want an irrelevant PTS
    12. I do not want M, Q or Moneypenny to be out in the field.

In Thunderball the threath was of an atomic explotion in "a major city in the US". The vulcano would be a very different situation. But, yes, North Korea would be a regime benefiting from such a terrorist attack. Another idea would be an Iraqi geologist. Imagine he lost family. First to children getting cancer from playing in tanks destroyed by plutonium-tipped rounds after the 1991 war. Perhaps the child died due to lack of medicine and treatment during the Clinton embargo. Then came the 2003 war and he lost more family then and in the terrorist in the aftermath. He would feel a strong hatred towards NATO and the US, and as a geologist he would know about the vulcano and the use of explosives. Perhaps too political, but it could work.

With M and Q performing in theatre now, though they never shared a scene onscreen, how about a flashback with Q and M in Bond 24? Just momentary, lasting a minute, to illustrate some point.

    1. Less action and more plot. Recent films seem to bounce from action sequence to action sequence. The films offer nothing but. It is tiresome to the point that I wonder if 24 is really viable or desirable.
    2. An absence of sentimentality. QoS had way too much sentimentality it was stomach churning. Skyfall (which I couldn't watch in its entirety - sorry got bored half way through - seemed to also have some types of sentimentality with the M relationship.
    3. Fit bond girl - we haven't seen a nice blond for a while (perhaps since Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost in DAD and she was on the wrong side). I have the impression that it has mostly been brunettes lately. A change is as good as a rest.
    4. Get rid of Judi Dench as M. Frankly, I find her embarrassing. Too emotional, too attached. It's not good.
    5. My favourite film is FRWL - the film has such grace and style. To this day I get fashion ideas from the way people are dressed in that film. Nowadays they are trying a bit too hard to be stylish. But it seems shallow - checking cuff links in the midst of a chase etc. One thing that I find unforgivable is that sometimes Bond's sleeves sometimes seem a bit long with an absence of cuff. Whatever film they develop in the future there should at least be a hint of cuff.

hey Jermyn_Street! Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! Always good to have another Bond Fan aboard.

You and I have much in common it seems. My favorite is FRWL also, and like you, I hated Skyfall. Only thing that kept me in the theatre was loyalty to Bond, a prayer that it would get better. Although QOS was worse in my opinion. Bad writing in both. In the words of Q Algernon "Now that you're here, I hope we can get back to some real gratuitous sex and violence" In other words, a return to Bond Movies and not repackaged Bourne and Home Alone movies with misplaced gun barrel sequences.

    1. You may wonder, but I believe the vast majority of Bond fans believe Bond 24 is both viable and desireable.
    2. I agree that less sentimenatilty would be a good thing.
    3. I hope that you don't mean to suggest that the only "fit" Bond girl would be a blonde? No problem with changing the types of Bond girls every so often, though - I welcome the diversity.
    4. If you can bring yourself to finish watching Skyfall you'll find that your gripe about Judi Dench has been addressed. (I personally enjoy her as M)
    5. FRWL - A great Bond film; definitely in my top 5.
