Is there anything that as Bond fans, we can all agree with?

James SuzukiJames Suzuki New ZealandPosts: 2,406MI6 Agent
I know that at AJB we all have different opinions about the Bond franchise and that in it self is what makes this forum so good. But is there some stuff about Bond we can all agree on? Thought this would be quite fun...I'll start off.
-I reckon we can all agree that the best Bond writer of the Literary Bond series is Ian Fleming.
-That Roger Moore bedding Stacey Sutton was slightly creepy
-Sean Connery doesn't look good Japanese!
-Moore shouldn't of bed Mayday in AVTAK!
-John Barry is the best Bond composer!
-That the CGI in Die Another Day is awful
-Another way to die isn't the best Bond song.

Anything to add?

Strongly disagree with both comments about AVTAK. In fact I would add those to the "most misguided criticism thread"

    1. Rog didn't actually "bed" Stacy. On the contrary, he sat in a chair all night guarding her with a shotgun! Truly a gentleman.

    2. Bond hopped into May Day's bed as a last resort because he didn't make it back into his own room in time. "The things I do for England" he thinks as he rolls his eyes. Great moment for May Day when she forcefully flips him over. And Bond's remark the next morning, "I got off eventually" is priceless.

Both those scenes toy with audience expectations of the Bond formula and deliver surprisingly fresh results.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

    1. I'm thinking about the shower scene at the end, Firemass with the Q robot thing spying on them luaghing in the shower. That, was creepy, no doubt about that.
    2. Even still, he had enough time to rush into Mayday's room, strip off naked then jump into her bed? Couldn't he use that time to hide some where else?

How about this for a softball - Caroline Bliss wasn't the best Miss Moneypenny?

But seriously, is there anyone who doesn't believe that Robert Davi's Franz Sachez, was a very well-played Bond villain in LTK? (Keep in mind that I'm not asking if you liked the movie - I'm only referring to Davi's portrayal).

I think we can all agree that Bond is the best franchise/series of movies in the History of Hollywood! And that nothing should stop them being made short of Armageddon.

Was that generic enough? Can I get a zinger in now? (upshift, engine revving, "Discipline, 007") Oh, alright, I'll hold back for now

No, I can't agree. Just having seen Moonraker, this was a "Franco-British Co-Production". There's nothing "Hollywood" in most of the films (other than the distributor for some countries).

    :)) Best April fools joke!

    1. Creepy because there's a robotic dog spying on them? Sorry...I'm just not following. Showering together is something that adults do from time to time. ;%

If this is an "age difference" thing I'd like to mention that Melina was 22 to Roger 53 in FYEO which is a greater gap than Stacy 30 to Rog 57.

    2. The point was not to hide, but to be found. He needed to explain his absence to keep up his cover.

You got me there then, Firemass, I shouldn't argue about AVTAK facts with you. I love FYEO and I really Love Carole Bouquet's Melina character. I think with this, you're telling me I need to watch AVTAK again. I think I need to!

Yes, they're made in that other neck of the woods called Pinewood to quote John Brosnan. :))

-John Barry is the best Bond composer!

Sorry to deconstruct, but as much as I love Mr Barry's music, I find David Arnold's is more to my taste!

    I think Gatsby has won this one! -{

Wow! And I thought Barry would be a slamdunk! Just goes to show that with this group the one and only thing we can all agree on is that we are Bond fans. Otherwise, what the hell are we doing here??? :))

Heretofore, let it be known that by 'Hollywood' I meant all movie making in general. I shall, from hereon, try to adopt a more world encompassing viewpoint.

I think that nearly the only thing that we Bond fans can agree on is that we agree to disgree on every aspect imaginable of the James Bond phenomenon from 1953 to 2013. 8-)

I agree with Lotus, in that I don't agree.

In fact its fair to say that we all agree that we agree to disagree on the best dynamics of the James Bond phenomenon, except that we are agreed that we don't disagree that its a phenomenon we all agree that we enjoy.

    Wouldn't you agree?

Oh I completely agree! I agree no one should automatically agree to disagree if they disagree with agreeing. I'd never expect anyone to automatically agree. I think that's something we can all agree on.

Except of course, for those who diagree, who don't want to agree in principle. I can agree to that, even with those who disagree to agree. Or those who agree to disagree. To any degree!
