    Great list Sir James.

I would rank Octopussy almost on par with FYEO in the Fleming Dept because it faithfully incorporated Property of a Lady and also featured an accurate summary of Major Dexter Smythe's exploits.

Add the cheating at Backgammon scene which was taken from the Moonraker novel. Ending with the famous line, "Spend the money quickly, Mr. Bond"

Wouldn't you say that's about equal amount of Fleming material that was used in FYEO? 2 short stories and 1 unused scene from a different novel.

Also The Spy Who Loved Me seemed to borrow a few things from the Moonraker novel including changing the coordinates of the missiles to blow up the submarines. And was the scorpion fish in the Octopussy novel the same that Stromberg asked Bond to identify? "Handsome but deadly"
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

    Thanks Firemass,

I think you're right and it should probably be higher than YOLT and DAF - although the reason I haven't put it as high as FYEO, TLD and LTK is because they really used Fleming's material at the heart of their plots whereas I feel the use is a little more incidental in OP.

I had completely forgotten that the backgammon scene in OP is taken from the bridge sequence in Fleming's MR. Thanks for reminding me!
