Your Favourite 3 Consecutive Bonds?

I have turned this question around in my head since yesterday but I still can't give a definitive answer to the question 'My favourite 3 consecutive Bonds'. IMHO there have never been 3 consecutive GREAT Bond movies. I love Dr. No and From Russia With Love but am not a big fan of Goldfinger. I can understand why it is considered as the definitive 007 film, it is of course a great spectacle with ingredients we see even now in 2013. You Only Live Twice has always been a favourite, I know it is not as ´good´ as Goldfinger but I just seem to ´enjoy´ it more. I love the Japanese setting, Tiger Tanaka, the volcano lair of Blofeld, the cinematography and Aki of course. On Her Majesty´s Secret Service is my favourite movie, period. But two of my favourite movies are sandwiched by two of my least favourites. Thunderball that is just too slow and boring for me (it does have some great moments). IMHO Connery looks more bored in this movie than he does in YOLT. Diamonds Are Forever should be the eyeopener to everyone who blames Roger Moore for the direction the Bond movies took after the very serious OHMSS. DAF is just silly. I love Live And Let Die, Kananga is a very interesting villain who is always one step ahead of Bond. However, it also has one of the worst things Bond has ever done to someone. The Man With The Golden Gun is just so-so to me. The Spy Who Loved Me is another Moore movie that I really like. It has everything that makes a 007 movie, just like Goldfinger, I just like TSWLM a lot more. Moonraker is not as bad as most people say IMHO. The first half is actually pretty good. Just a bit too silly. Ken Adam did a fantastic job on this movie. His production design was very important for the cinematic style and feel of the early Bond movies and have not yet been equaled. But MR is for from my top 10. For Your Eyes Only might be the most dated Bond movie to date. Maybe it´s the clothes, maybe the cars or product placement. However, it remains one of Roger Moore´s highlights as a more serious Bond. He showed he could do this when given a good script. Octopussy is, like YOLT, one of my hidden treasures. A View To A kill is okay, but I haven´t had 2 good films in a row so we go on to Dalton. The Living Daylights is a breath of fresh air. A fantastic movie! Licence To Kill is great too but Bond is not Bond anymore. GoldenEye showed Bond is Back! It might rank along GF and TSWLM as the most cookiecutter Bond movie. But man, it was fantastic when it came out! Brosnan went on with his cookiecutter Bond until DAD was the maximum. CR was fantastic. QOS..... not my cup of tea. And Skyfall was not what I hoped it would be but returned to the lush cinematography I've come to expect of the 007 movies.

All in all I think the first 3 and the Daltons plus GoldenEye are my favourites.

Sorry for my long and rambling post.

No. You're mixing up understanding with
loving. I didn't respect QOS the next morning
    and my wallet was gone.

    I'm not...nor am I taking cheap shots either...but that's okay.

I agree 100%! However, understanding is the difficult part with QoS.

Not really...I really don't know how you cannot understand QoS...its a simple enough film to follow...
Took me 3x until I could tell what was going on. Editing was an issue and the plotline of qoS took awhile for me to grasp.

I'd go with AVTAK, TLD, and LTK. The two Dalton's, for obvious reasons, and AVTAK because Walken does make for an arse kicking villain.

Bit tricky to decide but Craig's Three, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall are probably the first to come to mind.
Also Moore's last FYEO, OP, AVTAK.
    Finally TLD, TLK and GE.
Also worthy mention is LALD, TMWTGG and then TSWLM

The plotline to QOS was easy enough but the way it was handled/written/edited whatnot was what made it confusing.

Something like "The Matrix" or the film "Memento" are the opposite - quite complicated stories, but they were managed pretty well that they're easy enough to grasp if you put the effort in.
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

    1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and OHMSS for me. Three quite different films, but I love them all, including the light-hearted, much maligned YOLT.

On the contrary, I don't think that one's needed for that film. Easily my least viewed James Bond film.

Since Roger Moore is my favorite Bond I would go with:
    FYEO, Octopussy, and AVTAK

But if I were making a long weekend of it and watching movies in blocks of 3, after the above mentioned I would go with first:
    1. Dr No. - FRWL - GF (not just the start but Connery at his best!)
    2. OHMSS - DAF - LALD (I was thinking about how great 3 movies, 3 different actors, 3 different takes on Bond!)
    3. FYEO - Octopussy - AVTAK (2 of these are in my top 10 and it's Roger Moore!)
    4. NSNA - AVTAK - TLD (Another chance to see 3 different takes on the role!)
  • SpangledWebSpangledWeb Station P, USAPosts: 24MI6 Agent
    Great question.

I always enjoy OHMSS, but not YOLT. I'm partial to the odd numbered Moore entries (LALD, TSWLM, FYEO, AKTAK), so that leaves the late 60's to early 80's out in a "Three-fer".

Not a huge fan of TLD (although I don't dislike it), but LTK & GE are a couple of my favorites. TND is a guilty pleasure Bond for me, so those three are a close second choice.

QoS disqualifies the Craig films for me.

All that said, I'd have to go with DN, FRWL & GF - they say a classic never dies.

    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
