OHMSS, your favourite scene?

With the wife out for the evening, I treated myself to a viewing of my all time favourite Bond film last night. Every scene, every frame, every bit of dialogue is for me perfect. Even the part where Lazenby's voice was dubbed doesn't bother me. I found myself shouting out "brilliant" at the scene where Lazenby slides on his stomach while shooting at Blofeld's henchmen. The fight scenes are some of the best in the series and what ever people think of Lazenby, I remain a huge fan of his one and only outing. His gun barrel walk is also my favourite (DC's pissed off walk in QoS being my second).
OHMSS is probably the one Bond film I watched once or twice a year. I think it could be described as a cult classic, not something easily done amongst a series of block-busters.
I can't really pick out a favourite scene, but what is others favourite part of the film?

Off the top of my head, my top scenes would be:

The entire PTS. Great cinematography and cool fights.[/*]

The siege on Piz Gloria. The music, the action, etc. are just fantastic. And yes, Bond-on-his-belly was really cool.[/*]

Bond alone, cold, and scared in a stolen coat sitting by a skating rink hiding from Blofeld's men. Lazenby was far from being a great actor, but he totally nailed it in this very brief scene.[/*]

Tracy's death and Bond's reaction. See above re: Lazenby's acting.[/*]

This is probably my favorite scene. It's been too long since I've watched OHMSS. It's such an odd movie. First it IS brilliant. It's a fantastic script and you know that is universally accepted because in Bond circles you always get the "If Connery had done..", "If Dalton had done" arguments. I just recently posted I would love to have seen Moore do OHMSS! Why? Because it's one of the best scripts in the series and one of the few times where the character of James Bond is given some depth. Secondly Diana Rigg is just superb and if Lazenby lacks the acting credentials of his peers I still think he does more than a credible job in the role. I think it has maybe the best score of all the movies. It has so much going for it, but... for some reason LOTS of people have never scene it! I would guess this is the least watched of all the movies based on the number of people who have told me they are unfamiliar with it. Is that because when the Bond movies were being aired on TV in the 70's and 80's this one got less play because it was the oddball with the one-off actor?
Moore in OHMSS... interesting. While he is probably my least favorite Bond, I could see that. While I love Lazenby in the film and am very pleased he did it, I would actually prefer to see a Moore OHMSS over a Connery OHMSS. Why? To be honest, I think Moore is better at the romantic aspects of Bond, which fits the film. I also think he was better at showing Bond's human, vulnerable side than Connery was, which again fits well with OHMSS.
Now you've got me wondering what the series would have been like if Moore had taken over with OHMSS! I don't think Connery would have returned in DAF, because I think OHMSS would have been a bigger hit with audiences if Moore had starred in it. Not slamming Lazenby, but let's face it: The public never warmed to him.

Favorite Scene: Red Cross helicopters carrying "sick passengers"... always found this suspenseful
1. GoldenEye 2. Goldfinger 3. Skyfall 4. OHMSS 5. TWINE
I really just touched on this in another post and I think the intersting "what if" is how this changes DAF and Moore's tenure in general. I think if Moore has done OHMSS that DAF would have HAD to be have been a more serious movie because with the same actor you would HAVE to focus on the revenge factor. DAF doesn't really focus on revenge because it focuses on the return of Connery. Bring back the same actor and the tone HAS to be darker. I picture Moore playing those scenes with Blofeld with the same disgust and controlled anger as the scenes with Zorin in AVTAK. Now what I wonder is if Roger had started off in OHMSS which is grittier and more grounded in reality and then had played in a grittier darker DAF, would this had resulted in more of the other movies having a bit more "grit" to them? I also have to wonder when would Moore's tenure have ended? I have to think possibly as early as Moonraker and certainly no later than Octopussy. Which I think means at least 3 movies for Dalton. It's all just "what if" but it makes for interesting discussion!
As for my favorite scene in OHMSS...probably the safe cracking scene in Gumbolt's office.

- pre titles scene, just love the drive along the coast early in the morning, probably after a heavy night in the casino. The music during the fight scene is awesome.
- titles sequence itself, I just love!
- Bond at the hotel...awesome. The manager knowing him, checking into the suite, coming down for dinner and the casino, fab! I always feel like this whenever I arrive at a nice hotel!
- safe cracking scene. I love that gadget. No need for Q.
- the the scenes in Switzerland. The skiing and the ski chase made me want to learn, which I did not to far from Interlaken where these scenes were filmed. Oh and yes I have been to Piz Gloria!
Just realised I have pretty much just listed the whole film there!
As I am off work today, I'm gonna make a cuppa now and sit back to watch the DVD!
Thanks for an inspirational thread!!!!
you picked mine as well. If I had to choose from them it would be Bond alone, dejected and exhausted in the stolen coat. there was a real vulnerability there and the sense as in the novel that Bond sees no way out and is waiting for the inevitable capture and death...he looks up and there is Tracy!
I will wait for my wife to leave home for a night so I can watch it again in peace also )
1. Connery 2. Craig 3. Brosnan 4. Dalton 5. Lazenby 6. Moore
I like it because so many Bonds go abroad but have no local colour, the likes of Dr No and FRWL an exception. I went on a school trip to Interlaken in the summer as a teen, repeated some years later with my family on the same trip, so it's nice to point out, even if the winter season makes it look different.
Roger Moore 1927-2017
This for me too (although I'm not sure I manage to pull it off myself when I check-in to hotels!) - I agree with most of the posts here but this scene above all the others encapsulates Bond for me. Confident, respected, completely in control of his environment, love it.
If I recall you have been to the Portugal city Lisbon, or have I got it wrong.
Piz Gloria is great in the summer, you can hike down to Murren.
Roger Moore 1927-2017
I think some fans underestimate Sean Connery's ability to show a more human side. (For example, take a look at his performance in the film Marnie). One thing I'm certain of, though - if Moore had been Bond in OHMSS, the fight scenes would have been a lot less exciting.
Good point, BlackLeiter. The fight scenes play a major part in making it one of the greats, if not the best Bond film.
The fight scenes are very good but there is a LOT going for OHMSS, more than JUST the fight scenes. I like Lazenby in OHMSS and think he did more than a credible job with it. But I think Roger gets a bad rap with the fight scenes. He looked decent to me in LALD (just watched it again the other day), I think the dressing room scene in TMWTGG is good, the yo-yo scene in Octopussy.. to name a few. And his fight scenes in The Saint were pretty physical. Roger might not have been as good in the fight scenes as Lazenby or Connery but I think people make it out that he was a LOT worse than he was in reality. Of course they also would have just sped them up here and there like they did for George anyway

" I don't listen to hip hop!"
Exactly, Blackleiter! Bond doesn't have to be some sort of esoteric martial artist, but we need to believe he can hold his own in a physical confrontation and be able to kill a man in hand-to-hand combat. I don't get this with Moore. He has many strengths, but this is not one of them. (What made the fight coordinator think it would be a good idea for Moore to throw slow, sloppy kicks at his opponents, ala Bond vs. Sandor in TSWLM?)

Just got back from a week in Havana. Was awesome. Lots of Bondian moments for me as ever when I travel abroad alone.
