As much as I dream to become Bond myself one day, Bond is - and always should remain Brittish.

History told us that a non Brittish Bond will go down as a terrible Bond :P

Yes Bond should be played by a British actor, but I think Gavin looked great for the role and wouldn't have minded seeing him in it. As DAF and LALD are both films mainly based in the US, I don't think Gavin playing Bond would have hurt. And as far as Lazenby goes, he did a great job.

So long as he could do a passable British accent, then why not. :))

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I think you could do worse than John Gavin.

Incidentally, John Gavin was one of the actors who played OSS 117 in some of the Euro-Spy 007 knockoffs.

My thoughs exactly. Cubby always maintained that you needed a Britisher as James Bond. I think that this still stands - it's part of the character's old-world appeal, I guess.

Cubby also wanted his Bond actors to be over six foot tall. They've
broken that dictum ( love that word :)) ) so why not an American.

Why not indeed. It comes from Latin and the law - obiter dictum. This being the part of the case that is not the ratio decidendi or the actual judgment of the law case. But I'm sure you knew that...

If we can have a blond Dwarf with a face like a bag of spanners then we can certainly have an American.
