From everything Fleming intimated, Bond was not a long term thinker. Whatever kept him sharp or sated his pleasures was enough. A Bond of today, written by a Fleming of today .... maybe downing 6 packs of Red Bull would do it.
The scent smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. Then the soul-erosion produced by high gambling - a compost of greed and fear and nervous tension - becomes unbearable and the senses awake and revolt from it.
"This officer... admits to smoking 60 cigarettes a day... When not on active duty, the officer's average daily consumption of energy drinks is in the region of 6 packs of Red Bull."
Hmm...
"The officer's average daily consumption of alcohol is in the region of half a bottle of spirits" does have a better ring to it! )
"Wait! Make it three measures of Jagermeister, one measure of Red Bull, one measure of Vodka. Served over ice in a pint glass with a packet of peanuts. Got it?" -{ )
It is hard to reconcile a Bond that honed his skills during WWII with one today who would have been weened in Afghanistan, or spying on the new Russia. He'd probably have a new set off pills from the dispensary that could wire him for two or three days if needed. He'd worry about the crash when the mission was done. I do think he'd light up a cigar at Le Cercle though.

I have no knowlage of war or the stress connected with it But I'd say
the old staples of Smoking and Drinking help most People through it.
So even if Fleming was writing his Novels today. I'm sure Bond would
still smoke and drink too much.

Yep, Bond confidently expected not to make old bones and die on a mission so long term thinking and consequences were not high on his agenda.
“But I am greedy for life. I do too much of everything all the time. Suddenly one day my heart will fail. The Iron Crab will get me as it got my father. But I am not afraid of The Crab. At least I shall have died from an honourable disease. Perhaps they will put on my tombstone. 'This Man Died from Living Too Much'.”

What if I just want to quote a bit of what somebody wrote....?
Oh, don't bother explaining, It's not worth it, I don't think these computer things are going to catch on.
I've noticed that you tend to be very helpful toward other AJB users Chris.
Apart from that, what was the question again?
Oh yeah! When did Bond stop smoking?
Erm....? Don't know. Only read up to "You Only Live Twice".
Definately still smoking at that point.

Glorius!
Wish somebody would tell me how to do this "quote thing" that the others do.
