For me Bond ends at LTK

I will still and have seen all the Bond movies at the cinema, don't get me wrong, I grew up with and love Bond style/films etc. But I found myself about to buy the bluray set when I realised, I don't really give that much of a sh#t about the series from 95-present. They just don't have the same feel as the others. Maybe it is the lack of Cubby, I don't know. Also they seemed to stop using Fleming ideas after LTK and recent films seem like back-slapping tributes to the earlier films. I know John Glen wasn't the best director, but at least he wanted to use Fleming ideas.

After LTK there simply wasn't so much Fleming left to film, though ideas and references do crop up from time to time- most obviously in the second half of CR, of course, but also in the use of parts of the MR novel in DAD and 007's ancestry in SF.

Licence To Kill is one of my favorite top 3 James Bond movies. I can watch it over and over again. Oh, how I wanted Timothy Dalton to make another Bond film. If it wasn't for the legal case with Kevin McClory, Timothy Dalton probably could have made 3 more.

I kind of understand you. I have the DVD box also, and yet I watch at a frequent time any Bond movie from 1962- 1989.

maybe it is because as a child I watched the Brosnan's more often? Or maybe because they come on TV often so I dont have to catch them on DVD?

Either way, I watch the Connery ones by far the most, plus OHMSS, but am also often in the mood for a silly Moore movie. The Dalton's, despite loving them, I dont often see, neither the Brosnan (who I think is a great Bond) or Craig.

I'm the exact opposite. I think the movies after LTK are generally better and with more action.

And also Casino Royale has tons of Fleming references.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

I know what the OP means.

The Moore films were more ludicrous in many ways, but the post-GE films are more knowing and self-referential. It's almost like they don't want you to suspend your disbelief. You're watching a very expensive advert for the franchise.

For me it definately feels like the Classic series ended in '89 with LTK. The last scene just feels like it's the end of an era for some reason. Can't quite put my finger on it...

The last Bond film for Richard Maibaum, John Glen, Timothy Dalton, Robert Brown, Maurice Binder, and others.... some of whom had been there at the beginning. And of course the last Cubby actively produced. Perhaps the end of an era feel was inevitable.

I hate to think that I agree...to some extent.

Craig's films have SOME redeeming features, but it's not really Bond in his films.

Over the years I've been Mildly critical of Craig as Bond. But with Skyfall
I think he finally Became Bond. The odd smirk, One-liners and the swagger
    in the walk.
Just my Opinion but I think he's at last, after the revenge story. Getting a
chance to have some fun on screen as Bond.

To me he's more Bond than Roger Moore ever was.

Yes, that's right. His heirs Michael & Barbara took over during GE. I've always thought that it was a nice touch that they have continued to include his name in the credits. Michael's sons Gregg and David have been working on the films, just as their dad and aunt did before them- I guess with a view to taking the reins one day.

It would be amazing to see the series pass to
a third generation. -{ although sad to think
the series might out last most of us. :D

Oh, it definitely will! Given that MGW is now the same age Cubby was during MR (when Wilson began taking a production credit), it's not unreasonable that he would be looking to his sons to take over some of the work and eventually inherit his job. Bond is forever, and IMHO it's reassuring that the same family will be behind the films.
Btw, I don't know if BB has any kids- anyone got any info there?

It's a popular opinion amongst fandom that Sean Connery / George Lazenby / Roger Moore play the same character but Timothy Dalton can't possibly be the exact same character with identical experiences because of the age difference. But it's often overlooked that George Lazenby is only 4 years older than Timothy Dalton... they're very much contemporaries.

So you could potentially extend your "Classic Bond" era to LTK.

I believe she has two, Barbel. A girl and a boy - Angelica and Michael. I'm not sure of their ages though. She's a lot younger than Michael G Wilson so her kids would almost be the fourth generation (or, at least, Generation 3B)

If I may throw my 2 cents worth in here. I do hope Gregg and David Wilson will be firm in continuing the James Bond movies in release of every two years. I think the two young gentlemen would like to continue the traditions and have an eye for choosing the right man to be the next James Bond.
I realize the position for James Bond probably won't be open until 2018 or 2019, but this year of 2013, I think Henry Cavill and Adam Rayner are the two HOT contenders.

Thanks, Sir James. So there are a few choices then, and the next generation of Bond producers is waiting in the wings. I'm in BB's age bracket, so I may not see how it all pans out!

Of course I'm going to say yes! But we've veered well off-topic here, so....

Some film series or franchises are strong on continuity. The Tolkien stories in particular, but the Harry Potter and Star Wars films do make an effort in that direction. Of course they don't always get everything correct, but the aim is there.
That just isn't so with James Bond. There is no way to make the series internally consistent. Even ignoring the unofficial movies, the James Bond series can never be seen as episodes from the life of one man for one very good reason.

    Time.

In part, 007 is the victim of his own success. Broccoli & Saltzman certainly hoped that DN would be the start of a series; what they couldn't have known was that the series would still be running 50 years later. In those years the films changed, the cast & crew changed (although as little as possible, which is quite remarkable), and most importantly the world changed.
James Bond couldn't age 50 years as the series progressed, leading to discontinuity and lack of consistency. No other film series has been in this situation before; basically the producers are making up the rules as they go along. A soft reboot here, a hard one there.
My attitude to it all is very much what Basil Exposition says to Austin Powers re time travel- just sit back and enjoy it!

I just turned 50. So you can see why I am anxious for these James Bond movies to be released every two years.
I guess Eon Producer, Michael G. Wilson, now 71, can only see Daniel Craig as his James Bond. I'm ready for the 007th (seventh) actor to be James Bond.
I love the James Bond movies and I want to see many more new ones.
