Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean - "GOLDENEYE"

I realize a lot of people make a big deal about the fight scene between Sean Connery and Robert Shaw in "FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE". But for me, my favorite fight was between Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean in "GOLDENEYE".

That was one of the features of GE that made it so welcome. The last time a Bond movie had a fight of that kind, which began in FRWL as you mentioned, was in DAF.

The reason people make such a big deal about the Connery/Shaw fight is because it's an extremely well-done and memorable highlight of the film series. That doesn't mean there aren't other fight scenes worthy of note, such as the Goldeneye scene, which I think is excellent. But for many fans, myself included, the fight between Bond and Grant in FRWL has yet to be surpassed.

GE fight is another series highlight for me. Well executed by both, with Bond winning out by wits (the ladder) as Trevelyan was the marginally superior fighter in my view. A big up to Brozzer who often gets unfairly criticised for his good looks.

It's a brillaint fight sequence. It's a pity there was nothing comparable in later Brosnan Bonds.

Oh puh-lease! Overrated?! It's one of the best fights in the series!

Just because Broz is a good looking man doesnt make him a wimp and DC looking like a Hobbit twisted by the One Ring doesn't make him tough. Every time I watch this fight, I'm impressed by what I see. PB gets knocked around, thrown across a table, punched, falls, and just keeps coming!. He knows he's overmatched but fights anyway. Even hanging by one hand with Alec stepping on his fingers, that smug look on his face as he thinks he's won, Bond refuses to give in. He's actually angry that Alec would do that, while looking for an opportunity to win. It's a Never Say Die attitude, a mental toughness that far outweighs anything physical. And Broz displays it beautifully!

Incidentally, this is one aspect of Bond I feel DC also does really well, he has the relentlessness/mental toughness down pat. Watching DC in a chase, or a fight, is fun. It's all the other bits I feel he can't seem to get.
Beg your pardon, forgot to knock...

You really nailed what makes it so special, it's because he is punching quite literally above his weight that it is so good. your point about mental toughness is spot on. It's great when someone expresses something in a way that makes you feel ' I wish I had said that'

Marvellous up to the point where Bond chokes the life out of Obanno. A bit too graphic for my particular taste.

Well I actually enjoyed that bit too. :D As with
the recent Batman films. I thought "Great " they've
made Bond Dangerous again. -{ .
Bond's job is messy and not very pleasant So at
times. His nastier side should be shown.
I remember thinking how cool it was to see the
Cruel side to Bond, Kicking the car off the cliff etc.
And I remember seeing " The Sicilian Cross" on
TV where Roger Moore Brakes a mans neck, something
we never got to see with His Bond.
Still diferent times for Different Bonds. :)

Thankfully not Sir Rogers. :)) )
Just thought I'd include this for those who think RM couldn't be "All badass" :007)

Yeah, good, the ending is a bit LTK with the supertankers.

Meant to be an awful film though.

A point well made regarding Bond's more dangerous/nastier side, but I still think Bond choking the life out of Obanno was a bit too graphic. :D

And thanks for posting the link to The Sicilian Cross. I have not seen that in a very long time.

A brilliant sequence but not too much hand-to-hand combat, which makes the GE fight sequence so good.

When it comes to Craig's Bond, the QOS fight in Haiti is a much better hand-to-hand combat scene IMO.
