Original '67 CR Set Design on the Block :: OUCH!

Beautiful, though not sure it's worth £30K (unless a good portion is going to charity ... which it's not):

Interesting PMJB but wow what a price I would have thought 10% of those estimates

Agreed, Nick, hence my "OUCH!" in the thread title. I have my doubts that even a sketch for the '06 version could pull numbers like that; while Stringer was an Academy Award-wnner, the bulk of his work was on films that simply weren't all that remarkable (possibly the '67 CR included).

In my estimation, something would have to be fairly iconic to achieve a figure like that. Poking around a bit, I'm finding that, for example, lesser Scarlett O'Hara costume sketches for Gone with the Wind by Walter Plunkett are averaging about USD $10K. Significant film, significant character, significant designer, roughly one-quarter the price.

Not sure that's Casino Royale, looks it could be Evelyn Trimble's London gaming club from the film... ?

Thanks, PM. It just looks like too much going on for that scale of drawing with two main gaming tables... movie magic, like the three-person bar in Casino Royale '06 that becomes a gaming club!

If you're talking the Ocean Club, it looks pretty much on screen as it does in real life (other than it not being a a card club).

Yes, it does. I was just there last week. It is small but movie fans take it for something more wondrous than it is... although the surround and grounds are lovely.

The villa is the thing that's more impressive, if only because the living room alone was used for filming (and at night) when the whole thing is as large as a good many family homes and has a spectacular daytime view.
